Raspberry Leaf

Hi all,

I have recently heard that raspberry leaf can make the uterus contract more effectively and can shorten labour.

I have bought some raspberry leaf tea bags and also some raspberry leaf tablets from H&B - I think they are 750mg and the bottle advises to take 2 per day.

Does anyone have any experience of either? Should I be drinking loose leaves instead?

Any advice?

Thanks :)

Hi
I have used raspberry leaf tea bags with all 3 of my pregnancies, started 1 a day at 33 weeks and upped them to 2-4 a day from 36 weeks. I haven't a clue If they actually work but my first labour was 8 hrs and 2nd was 5, currently 36 weeks with DC 3. For me it's a case of I'm not sure if they are what helped with my labours or not but it's worth a try.

I’ve no idea whether they had an impact on my labour or not but it wasn’t overly long (6 hours from arriving at hospital to giving birth and pushing stage itself was very short although I forget the actual duration). I used the loose leaf tea and I’d read that was the most effective way. I figured it was one of those things that wouldn’t do any harm so may as well!

I took the raspberry tea capsules. Both my DC were overdue, but did not need stitches with either child.

Those that took raspberry tea in my pregnancy group all had reasonable labours and none of us had stitches.

I had four cups a day from 36 weeks, my labour was just five hours from start to finish, but then I did have a weak cervix and was approx 2-3cm on my due date, she was able to stretch to 4cm in the sweep, so I went straight into established labour really. Hard to say if the tea helped

I drank 4 cups a day also from 36 weeks (the h&b teabag ones)
For both my pregnancies.
My first was 39 weeker and 4hour labour
My second was just under 38 weeks and a 2.5 hour labour.
Now 35 weeks on dc 3 so will be stocking up but as pp have said no idea ifit actually worked or was just coincidence.

Took the tablets when I remembered. Arrived at hospital at 3pm, not dilated at all, Son born at 6.30. So pretty quick for a first one I think!

Drank the tea by the bucket load. In labour for 32 hours, with about 3 pushing.

I didn't drink the tea but I did eat a lot of dates. Lots of evidence to suggest this fruit helps dilation and labour. I had 2 quick dilations and relatively short unassisted labours,

I'm pretty sure I read( and remember consultant said it's beneficial) to drink raspberry leaf tea as it helps uterus muscles. I don't think it brings labour but helps with preparing your uterus for birth.
