What is a VBAC Meeting???

VBAC is vaginal birth after a previous c-section. It’s probably a meeting with either a (possibly consultant) midwife or consultant to discuss your birth options this time round.

I had a consultant midwife appointment but it wasn’t specifically labelled as a VBAC appointment. We discussed why I’d had a section previously, how the hospital would handle/prefer to handle a VBAC and what my birth preferences might be.

I found the midwife I spoke to was very keen to play up the advantages of a VBAC and the risks of an ELCS, so you may wish to do your own research in advance of the pros and cons of both options, and any preferences you may have in relation to a VBAC if that is indeed your preferred option.

Many hospitals will want you to have continuous monitoring (but may have wireless available) and to labour in the delivery suite/consultant-led unit, potentially with a cannula sited on arrival. You may want to ask about monitoring, access to a birth pool, access to the midwife-led unit, what kind of progress they expect you to make and at what point they would advise a move to EMCS, etc. You might be interested in their VBAC “success” rates as well as things like rate of instrumental delivery.

Thank you @MyCatScaresDogs. Mine is with a consultant midwife too, they do like continuous monitoring here but have wireless and will allow water births (I've quizzed my midwife)

Will ask those questions you suggested, thank you!
