beauty worries!

I am worried about my db seeing me without make-up during childbirth. I do tend to wear it quite heavy, so should be OK, but would be grateful for any tips for keeping it in place. Also it would be good to know if there is any point during childbirth where medical staff might want to remove it against my will - should I mention to my midwife that I would not want this to be done?

I guess they'd only need to have it off (so to speak) if you needed a caesarean, Pammily. Make-up is an absolute no-no if you're having a general anaesthetic (because they need to monitor your skin tone). I'm not sure of the situation with local anaesthetic/epidural.

As for keeping it in place - bet Branster can help with this. Do you think you could go just a little bit more au naturel? I love make-up too, but I think you need to be comfortable in childbirth and to be able to put wet flannels on your face etc should you need to. Perhaps you could:

• dye your eyelashes in advance
• wear a tinted moisturiser rather than foundation
• use a cheek stain rather than blusher (Hard Candy and Benefit do good ones)
• use a lipstain or just a gloss on your lips
• use an eyecream that stays in place - Maybelline do great cooling ones

If you do this - keep it light, but use formulations that stay in place - it will be easier to repair if you do end up getting sweaty or wet.

This is such a fascinating question! Let us know your plan of action, once it's decided.

i doubt u will be thinkin about this when ur in labour. Plus the first few days after, u dont usually have the energy to get dressed let alone worrying about what you look like

with a vaginal delivery don't see why they would need to remove make up - possibly if you had to have a C-Section under a general. think the most likely thing they would want to remove would be nail varnish IIRC.

Does your dh never see you without make-up?

I couldn't wear make-up after ds1 was born - I had eczema on one eye - I think it was caused by runny eyes from all those sleepless nights

Cod and lydialemon are clearly natural beauties who've never had this worry.

I understand that you don't want to, sorry how I put this, look like a dog in front of your partner, so if you're really worried about the prospect of not being able to reapply your makeup every 20 mins or so, I suggest you search on the internet for a theatrical makeup supplier, lasts for hours apparently and is particularly good under strong lights, so won't fade if you have to into the operating theatre for a c-section.

My dh told me that he had never seen me so beautiful as when I was giving birth. That worries me quite frankly.

There will be so many other things going on during birth, that how you look will be the last thing you think of , really. Try not to worry.

I notice you said db, is your brother being your birth partner or is that a typo?

I would be more worried about the state of my relationship if I was having a child with someone who I couldnt even allow to see me without my makeup on. It doesnt really bode well for the future does it?

lets face it he'll se the contents of your womb and stomach and maybe even your bowels so I dont htink your skin is the end of the world

Exactly, which is why what dh said about me is worrying! He saw 2 out of the three you mention.
