Advice on sweep

Hey all,

My due date is Tuesday 17th I've been offered a sweep on this day and a follow up sweep on the 23rd if the first is not effective. I don't know whether to just have the one on the 23rd and see if labour starts naturally. Is it painful to have a sweep? Do you think it's too early? I haven't had any signs that I might go into labour anytime soon bar some mild period-like cramps in the mornings. I'm still pretty active. This is my first child. Thanks for opinions Smile

I wouldn't say it hurts just a bit uncomfortable.. If it was me I'd be getting the one done on Tuesday and see if it helps move things along

I've had sweeps with my children they don't hurt obviously it's not fun, they helped things progress for me so I'd defo say go for it because if you are ready then like I said things will get a move on x

I had a sweep. I found it quite painful- had to mentally bite the bullet to get over it.

I also felt really odd afterwards- a bit adrenaline-y and though I'd been violated. Not something I've ever felt during a routine exam down there, including smears. It was a step too far for me on the intrusion front, although I think I did go into labour later that day!! Wouldn't have it done again though.

My first sweep didn't hurt but also didn't do anything.

My second made me cry. She said she couldn't even do it fully.
I went into labour a few hours later Smile

Thanks, I'm still scared of going into labour anyway but if I leave it until the 23rd the chances of a Christmas Day baby seem quite high! You've given me something to think about it. My husband is definitely keen to meet our little one sooner if it's possible! X

Oh @LemonLey its terrifying. And exciting all at the same time. Flowers
If it helps.. in 6 months time you will barely remember this. My first sweep was a week before my due date so maybe a tad early.
Have a sweep on your due date! Try and get things moving and over and done with (meant in the best possible way).

PM me if you need any help or advice. (You'll get loads!). My birth went.. so so wrong. But worth it. Itll always be worth it.

LemonLey · 16/12/2019 10:11

Thanks for the advice Smile I think I might go for it tomorrow then. Been up most of the night with slightly worse cramps but no contractions so I guess that's a good sign. Xx

@LemonLey good luck!!

LemonLey · 17/12/2019 22:16

Thanks it wasn't too bad! But no sign of my body being ready - cervix still high and closed. Another sweep due on 23rd and induction on 24th which is only 40 + 7 days as they're not doing inductions on Christmas or Boxing Day then are full on 27th and 28th. Not sure if this is good or whether it's best to wait to be induced at 40 + 12.

@LemonLey

I'm hoping to actually go into midwifery as a career soon.
The only thing I have learnt is that as long as you have read all the information to hand.. asked all the questions you want to ask.. then it is all your choice. As long as you've made an informed choice.. the majority of this is up to you Smile you can decline absolutely anything or ask for anything you wish.

TryingToBeBold · 18/12/2019 07:33

*not only.. one of the things i have learnt Grin

TryingToBeBold · 18/12/2019 07:50

Have a look on Facebook at a page called "Chilled Mama".. an "advent calendar" is ongoing at the moment with your birth rights.. very interesting and worth knowing.

LemonLey · 18/12/2019 10:08

Thanks I will check it out! Best of luck with your midwifery career that would be wonderful! Thanks for your support really appreciate it x
