Anyone had a sterilisation at same time as c-section

My midwife is making an appointment for me to see a consultant about possible c-section due to all the problems i had when ds was born.

I definately do not want to have anymore children, this has been an horrendous pregnancy so far and there is no way I want to do it again.

So can they do a sterilaisation at the same time? Would it complicate things e.g recovery and would it mean having to have a general aneasthetic rather than spinal block?

I have seen it on TV docus. I don't see why they can't do it - it is all in hte same place. It may make the op a few minutes longer but I think the c section part of the op would be riskier and more time consuming than the sterilisation part IYSWIM.

Oh and on the TV docus - they did it with spinal and fathers in the room - no General anathestic.

AFAIK, there is more chance of a failure of the sterilisation when done with a c.s as the tubes are still swollen from pregnancy, so worth checking that out

Mirena coil is very good contraception, and almost as effective as being sterilised

have you been debriefed on your traumatic birth with DS?
