Who can I go and talk to about the first birth?

Am 17w preg. Ds was born at 42+2, failed induction, failure to progress, he was in distress and emergency c-section, all of which was pretty difficult. The question of what to do this time is starting to loom and I really feel that I just need to talk through what happened last time. I called the hospital a few months after ds was born but was told no-one would talk to me until I was pregnant again.

Who can I contact now to discuss what happened before so I can think about whether to go for a VBAC or go for an elective section? I'm really unsure at the moment and just keep freaking out about the whole business!

TIA

birth trauma assoc

i volunteer for them, and would be happy if you wanted to email me, and tell me your story.. if you would feel comfortable doing that...

www.birthtraumaassociation.org.uk

or sheila kitzxinger's birth crisis

contact PALS at your hospital and ask to speak to birth afterthoughts service or head of midwifery..very remiss for you to be told to go away until you were pregnant again.. it is so important to deal with birth trauma

Hi beansprout, i had i terrible birth with ds and am now 13 weeks pregnant. Saw my midwife yesterday and tbh she was fantastic and is arranging for me to see a consultant to go over what happened with my first birth and to discuss the best way forward this time.

Have you spoken to your midwife about this yet?

Thanks everyone. I will be having a scan at 21w, so will raise it then. Lulumama - thank you so much for your very kind offer, which I will take up.

Hello beansprout

Sorry to hear you had a hard time during your first labour but big congratulations on your second pregnancy.

I'd definitely recommend going over your labour notes with a senior midwife at the hospital. I did this after my dd's birth and found it really helpful. I found out loads of stuff I hadn't known, and it made me view the experience much more positively.

Good luck with it all.
