What did everyone do for childcare for older dc when going into labour?

We have 2 grans who would be willing to take our oldest when the time comes but both work. They could put in holidays around due dates but obviously we can't predict dates especially if early or late. Confused

DM will come over and stay as soon as labour starts - DH just has to call her and then will book an Uber for her.

Our plan is for DS to go to my grandparents, they live down the road and my mums only 2 doors down from then so lucky really. Theyve got his bed made up ready for him and keep their phones by their beds anyway so if calling them wont wake them up, the door bell will.

With my second I went into labour in the middle of the night. My FIL was on standby (with my parents as back up) and came over at 3:45am so we could leave for birth center. DC1 was obviously in bed! He took DC1 to the childminder in the morning as usual. We were home by lunchtime so DC1 just came home from the childminder as normal.

My parents are both retired but FIL was still employed. He told his employer that he may possibly have needed annual leave at very short notice.
