Hi,

Was taken into hospital today to be induced, was given the gel pessary but it didn't work so I was given another... some period like pains but nothing else. Doctor has indicated that I may be favourable to have my waters broken at some stage tonight, but just wondering for others' who may have been in the same position as me - how long did it take from waters breaking to baby born?? Just want to have an idea of what's ahead of me!

Thank you

Can be anything up to really 30hrs maybe. Assuming you need oxytocin drip. Everyone is different. The less favourable your cervix when breaking waters the longer it will take.
My two children were different, DS1.. waters broke during induction at 12 midday Saturday and I gave birth 9am Sunday (21hrs) by CS. And DS2 has my waters broken artificially at 10.30am and gave birth at 1.07am Sunday (14.5hrs)

From have my waters broken to birth was 2.5 hours. It was fast and furious to say the least. I was 3cm when they broke them and was at 10cm within no time.

My cervix was posterior and not favourable at all according to the midwife. I found having them broken one of the most painful parts of labour 😬

I had my waters broken during induction between 7-8pm Monday evening and didn’t have my daughter until 9:08am Tuesday morning. My whole induction experience was long winded before then anyway. Little lady was not ready!😊

I had a pessary at 3pm then waters broken at about 9pm, DD arrived at 3am. Contractions came full on within minutes of waters being broken - no build up, so was pretty intense!

For me, I had the pessary and nothing happened for 24 hours. Went for a long walk which started contractions off, had waters broken after 2.5hrs of contractions, baby born an hour later.

@SlipperyLizard I know the feeling! I went from no pains at all to agony just walking back to my bed from having them broken!

I'd say around 6ish hours. Contractions were pretty steady, had waters broken and remember the midwife saying "oh don't worry won't be much of a difference" there was a difference! It was full on from there

Waters broken 12.20am, baby born at 1.37am. I went from 2-10 cm in about 25 minutes and contractions were pretty much constant. Soooo glad it was over with quickly!
