Notches on an artery!!!!?

My daughter had a scan last week (21wks)and was told that she has notches on her artery. Apparently, this causes reduced flow of blood into the womb and can mean problems towards the end of pregnancy and at delivery. I have never heard of this problem before, has anyone suffered from it and how serious can it be?

It sounds as though your daughter was given a doppler scan which measures the blood flow through the placenta and converts it to a visual image. If this image has 'notches' on it then it suggests that the blood flow through the placenta to the baby may be reduced which can cause problems with the baby's growth. There's more information about it here under doppler scans. I would imagine she will be watched quite closely and scanned fairly frequently so if there are any problems they can be picked up early.

Many thanks for your comments and the information, Daisymoo, I feel sure that it was a Dopler test that my daughter had. Hopefully, all will go well with the rest of my daughter's pregnancy. I know the baby was moving around a lot during the last scan, so that appears to be a good sign.
