I just had a baby 5 weeks ago during childbirth I hemorrhaged and needed a blood transfusion I do have high anxiety because of what I went through after leaving the hospital I did bleed for maybe 3 weeks and then it stopped until this morning when I woke up I was bleeding just a little bit now I feel like I'm bleeding a little heavier I called over to labor and delivery and they told me it was my first menstrual but it doesn't feel like menstrual there's no menstrual smell nor cramping and I'm only 5 weeks out so I'm kind of worried. Its a bright red that scares me and a lot but not enough to fill up a pad can it be possible this is my first menstrual ?

It does seem early compared to most women I know but not unheard of (women have ended up with children 11 months apart in age after not realising how quickly the cogs can start turning again!)

Are you breastfeeding? I believe this can hold off menstruation restarting.

WRT the bleeding if it ramps up I would definitely insist on being seen. Go to your GP. If you start feeling very unwell with it or start filling a pad an hour then call 111 or go to A&E.

Have you been more active than usual, or (feel free not to answer this) had sex? My lochia stopped around three weeks and then re-started for a few days after one of the above. Wink It wasn’t a lot and definitely not as much as a period but worth getting checked out if it increases or if you feel unwell in any way.

Well it's either your first period or a continuation of your lochia, which can stop and start. Unless you feel increasingly unwell, it has a foul odor or is very heavy or there's clots it isn't anything to worry about either way.

5 weeks is within normal for your cycle to restart.

It could be, mine came back really quickly just under 4weeks. I can’t remember if it smelled different but it wasn’t the same flow as usual, probably because it didn’t have time to build up the same with pp bleeding. I also didn’t cramp like usual, but again my body would probably wouldn’t have minded a period cramp after labour.

I’m one of those buggers who’s going to have an 11month ish age gap..
