8 days overdue & cervix too far back for sweep!

Hi all!

I’m 41+1 with baby no 1 and I went for my second unsuccessful sweep today as, my cervix is too far back ☹️

I really really don’t want to be induced but, I am booked in for an induction on Tuesday morning. I had a bloody show this morning before my s&s appointment and then, I’m sure, a contraction just before I set off but, nothing since and I have been having regular painless contractions for 8 days now. Also, have had a handful of painful contractions which I realised were actually toilet pains so, now I’m wondering if it was actually a real contraction.

I’m so fed up as, I’ve been really uncomfortable for the past 8 days with these tightenings and baby’s head has been 2/5 engaged for 2 weeks so, feeling a lot of painful pressure down there.

I’m really hopeful that some of you have positive stories about cervix being too far back but then labour happening soon? The midwife said she can’t say labour is imminent because, the cervix is so far back and she appeared to be pretty convinced I was having the induction.

I really don’t want to have an induction as I wanted a water birth and also, have read and heard that induced labours are more painful and usually require intervention

Hey. I'm in exactly the same position as you! Our due date was the same, I had my second unsuccessful sweep this morning and I'm booked for induction on Tuesday morning too. I'm trying to avoid that as well! I obviously don't have an answer and the "it will come when it's ready" must be annoying you as well. I just wanted to say that I really do hope that we are holding our babies soon and hopefully someone else will come along soon with a miracle solution!

Hey @chooseausername, oh wow I can’t believe how similar our situations are!

Yep, my family and friends have been sending me messages all day telling me baby just mustn’t be ready yet and not to worry etc but the only person who has made me feel any better is my OH, who agreed how totally shit it was, let me rant and came in from work and ordered me a takeaway haha.

At first I posted this on the pregnancy thread instead of childbirth until I realised but, I’ve actually got lots more responses on there that might be of some help to you if you take a look! Made me feel a lot better knowing other people have been in the same situation and gone into labour naturally!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for both of us! Good luck! X

DS1 - first sweep failed as midwife couldn't reach my cervix, second sweep she could just tip it but nothing happened. I was induced at 41+5 and he arrived later that day. They broke my waters but no other intervention (no drip and no assisted delivery).

DS2 - first sweep failed as midwife couldn't reach my cervix. Second sweep she could just about tip it, said labour didn't seem imminent, but contractions started 4 hours later and he was born 9 hours after that. No intervention and my waters went on their own.

They really do come when they're ready, sorry I know that's really not what you want to hear! Grin hoping neither of you have to wait too much longer!
