Induction delayed

I was booked in to be induced yesterday but was told they were busy so no space for me. I've been trying to call them this morning as instructed - 3 calls since 7:30am - and no one is answering the phone. So I'm just sat here twiddling my thumbs feeling anxious! What are other people's experiences of their inductions being delayed? How long am I going to be sat here? Sad

It can depend how many people are wiTing in front of you (and their reasons for being induced) any emergencies that come in and also how full delivery is.

I went in last summer to be induced because there was space on the ward for me but was behind 5 other people and delivery was shit due to being too full. So I went in Monday and was induced Wednesday night.

All you can do is keep calling and hope

It’s not uncommon for inductions to be postponed for a couple of days due to capacity and staffing levels.

As long as baby is moving ok, your waters haven’t gone, you’re not getting contractions, and you’ve not had any bleeding you may find that you may have to wait a few days for induction. If you do experience any of the issues I’ve mentioned please call the labour ward and go and get checked out.

I've had a phone call and induction not happening today either... I understand this happens. I'm just so ready for this baby to come out, and feeling quite anxious about the induction itself and the birth and just want it over and done with.

I know that you’re disappointed, and I know it’s easy for me to say this... if you can try and relax you may go into labour naturally, stress hormones counteract oxytocin which are responsible for contractions.

Could you use the next day or so to do things for you?

Also nipple stimulation can trigger contractions, but you need to do it for approx 15-20 minutes 6 times a day (as if baby was BF).

@Beetie1 Awww I'm sorry! Hopefully tomorrow. Induction can be very nerve wracking. Both mine were super positive experiences so try not to worry too much.

Have lots of rest today, eat yummy things (if you go on the drip for induction they don't let you eat!!!) and try relax. You're baby will be here soon xx

Hi
I had to be induced 10 week ago with my ivf baby and they kept giving me dates and then saying no room as there is more urgent in front of me.. should have been induced at 39 week.. they kept me on a ward for a full week and ended up induced at 40+2 after kicking off and threading to walk out and go home... horrible experience don’t wish it on anyone

Beetie1 · 11/10/2019 20:52

I went in earlier for them to check that baby was alright and she is so that's good. They've promised tomorrow morning for definite and that I am top of the list - so fingers crossed!

This is my 3rd baby so I'm not new to the whole birthing babies thing, it's just that I've not been induced before and you read about it being more painful or ending in other intervention. I also had a significant PPH last time so that is worrying me too as I don't want it to happen again. Also I can't have a water birth this time because of the PPH so it'll be my first baby born on dry land. Just lots of stresses going around my head!

@Beetie1 my inductions were definitely painful (I'm a wimp) so had epidural but both mine were really calm positive experience with no intervention needed and no damage to me. I'm aware I'm very lucky but it's not always horrible

Beetie1 · 12/10/2019 13:13

Well they kept their word and I have been admitted. Just had the pessary in so fingers crossed something happens quickly! Smile

Third baby you're likely to get going nicely. Try not to worry.

NotSoThinLizzy · 12/10/2019 16:58

Good luck

Beetie1 · 12/10/2019 18:45

Still nothing much going on. Feel a bit more uncomfortable but nothing I'd consider a contraction just yet.

Did you get the 6 hour pessery? Fingers crossed things start moving soon.

shazzz1xx · 12/10/2019 20:34

I had the 6 hour pessery then another as nothing happened then the 24 hour gel then another lot of the 24 hour gel and after a 5 days nothing so was put on drip and contractions started straight away :) good luck let us know when u have had little bundle of joy

Beetie1 · 12/10/2019 21:01

It's the propess that can stay in for 24hrs. So unless something happens I'll be reassessed around tomorrow lunchtime.

PixieDustt · 13/10/2019 00:48

Good luck, OP!
I was induced and the 2 pessary and the gel didn't work. So then had to wait 24hrs to start again. Brought me to Friday Eve, 2 pessary's in on 2nd round and Say 2am I started to have contractions, waters broke at 9am and had DS Sat Eve. Don't feel disheartened if the first round didn't work. The 2nd round worked really quick for me

NotSoThinLizzy · 13/10/2019 15:47

How are you getting on?

Beetie1 · 15/10/2019 17:12

Update! Baby Callie was born on Sunday at 3pm weighing 8lb 5oz!

Propess went in at lunch time on Saturday. I started getting some contractions late Saturday night/early hours of Sunday but they had tailed off by 4am. I dropped off to sleep and then woke at 7am getting contractions again. The string of the propess was dropping out which I had checked in the morning and was told it had dropped down away from my cervix which is possibly why the contractions stopped earlier. I had it repositioned at around 9am and from then contractions got much stronger. I had the propess removed at 11am and was sent down to the labour suite. I was 3-4cm but was struggling with the pain. Contractions continued without the propess but the intensity eased off a bit and I was grateful for the gas and air! It was quite nice to be able to relax between contractions for a while. I was checked again at 2pm and I was 5cm and my waters were broken. The contractions built up quickly after that and she was born unexpectedly following a massive contraction just before 3pm. The midwife wasn't ready and hadn't even got her apron on.

So the end was very intense and I was in shock for a while. But no tearing and no PPH and we got to all go home after 3 hours. Smile
