It’s a big no no

Intersmellar · 27/09/2019 18:34

Don’t do it. It can send your baby into distress.

Mrsjayy · 27/09/2019 18:35

Oh god no you will just get the shits with the amount you are supposed to take ! I can't believe this is still a thing.

MumofTinies · 27/09/2019 18:41

Both my DSs were nearly two weeks late so I understand completely how you feel but please, please don't try caster oil. If your feeling crap now, imagine how you will feel with the worst shits of your life thrown in, plus as a previous poster mentioned there is risk to the baby.
Honestly I tried pretty much every method going, it really is true that babies come when they are ready.
Hang in there OP, you will have your lovely baby with you soon enough Flowers

mummy915 · 27/09/2019 18:42

Oh god I won't try that then, thanks ladies... any other suggestions? X

*you're

Windydaysuponus · 27/09/2019 18:43

Good old vacuuming got things going several times for me op.
Vigorous and at least an hour!

GummyGoddess · 27/09/2019 18:44

I'm sure nipple stimulation is the only proven thing to work. Even sweeps only work if you're about to go into labour anyway.

7Worfs · 27/09/2019 18:46

I was a week overdue when I went for a long evening walk (1.5 hours). My waters broke the next day, but baby still didn’t want to come out - failed induction and EMCS got him evicted.
HTH Grin

This is annoying to hear I know but I honestly think relaxing is key. After all it's oxytocin that drives labour.

Night before I went into labour I chilled out with a film, booze free wine, candles and chocolate. I know it's impossible to say whether me being relaxed worked but it was a great excuse to treat myself!

youngestisapsycho · 27/09/2019 18:53

Hot curry, long walk and sex! Smile

viques · 27/09/2019 18:53

Back in the day when it was customary to give women a shave and an enema as labour started, it was also quite common to give them a swig of castor oil as well. Honestly, Hammersmith Hospital hang your head in shame!!!
More worryingly a woman I knew thought the caster oil was to grease the baby's head , i prefer not to speculate about what she thought the internal arrangement of her body was .

theoriginalmadambee · 27/09/2019 18:53

Sex - releases oxytocin Grin.

theoriginalmadambee · 27/09/2019 18:54

X post, sorry.

MidnightMystery · 27/09/2019 18:55

A long power walk !

WeShouldOpenABar · 27/09/2019 18:56

I used it and it did nothing, didn't even clear me out Hmm had to get my mam to buy it and even she was asked was not for a pregnant person and would have been refused if she'd said yes.

mummy915 · 27/09/2019 18:57

I never knew caster oil would affect the baby or I wouldn't even considered it 🙈 i know nothing will help tbh it will just make me feel abit better knowing I've tried 😂 xx

Why would you take it then Weshould?

TheCraicDealer · 27/09/2019 19:04

There was a woman on another forum (What to Expect) in my "month" chat whose baby died after she used it. Apparently as it sends your guts into sudden overdrive and makes you poop it can also lead to the baby getting distressed. Her baby swallowed meconium and sadly passed away. I know you're not going to use it now but there's the reasoning behind the warnings here anyway.

I've been using clary sage for baths and massage the last two days and just lost my bloody show but tbh I don't think there's any link. Baby will come when they're ready. Just wish she was a little more ready!!! Grin

annonymousse · 27/09/2019 19:15

Sex, nipple stimulation and dates (ie dried fruit) tho a date night might be good 😂

annonymousse · 27/09/2019 19:17

Pressed send too soon. Prostaglandin is what they use to induce labour and is present in semen and dates. Nipple stimulation produces oxytocin which is the hormone that helps bring the contractions.

Good luck!

mummy915 · 27/09/2019 19:25

Thecraicdealer that's horrible!!! There should be more warnings!! Im shocked! So glad i put on here first thankyou x

DD came at 38+6 - I had had enough! I tried...

Dates (the dried fruit)
Clary sage oil in the bath
Evening primrose oil
Lots of time on the birthing ball
Sex
Long walks
Nipple stimulation, I hand expressed colostrum from 37 weeks

No idea if any of this had any affect but they're all harmless. Good luck!

mummy915 · 27/09/2019 20:34

Putputput I'll have to try the dates and bath stuff thank you :)
