Twin C - Section and scarring

Hi everyone, I have a C section booked for the 25th of October and have been told that stitches heal better than staples? Is this true? Should I be opting for stitching. Will it be a neater scar?

I wasn't given an option, was stitches, can barely see my scar and I've had two!

I had a c section for twins 4 weeks ago today and my sutures were monocryl which is a dissolvable suture. I wasn’t given any option for what I had - and it seemed that different consultants at the same hospital have different preferences so it could come down to who actually performs the c section.

No option for me and I was told it was glued after it was done. Healed well and looked amazing. Can hardly see it

I think I had dissolving stitches. Healed beautifully, barely a scar a year later. No overhang and no numbness which I was worried about.

Just make sure you follow the instructions about not lifting anything heavy and prioritise your recovery over everything but the babies.

Good luck!

I had dissolvable stitches. My section was 14 months ago and you would struggle to even see it's there. As PP said, I also don't have an overhang or any numbness

I had a section with my twins too. Had dissolvable. Wonderful experience. Go easy on yourself. It's amazing twins.

I had dissolvable stitches and the cut was right above my bikini line, you'd never know it was there.

I had 4 sections. Have had dissolvable stitches and those that need to be removed - never had staples. Was told on 3rd that I couldn't have dissolvable as I'd had previous sections. On 4th I asked again and was told yes, that my consultant uses dissolvable - so I agree with pp who suggested it's down to whoever performs the section. I'd opt for dissolvable any day of the week.

It is the lead doctor performing your operation who would decide on what is best for you...obviously if you have a preference then say before the op but certain people are recommended to have certain closures for specific reasons. If you are a normal weight with no significant health problems then you are more than likely going to have dissolvable stitches.
