What do you wear in birthing pool? Swimsuit? Bikini? Bikini top? Nothing?
Sorry if this is a bit daft question

I had a maternity tankini and just wore the top part.

Blahblahblahnanana · 12/09/2019 18:26

You could either wear a tankini, vest top, bra/bikini top, night shirt or a T-shirt, what ever you feel comfortable in that is light weight as it will get wet. Definitely no bottom half though.

Most women tend to wear a bra/bikini tankini/crop top or just go in naked.

ConstanzaAndSalieri · 12/09/2019 18:28

First time: tankini
Second time: just let me in there I don’t care if I’m not wearing anything.. (she was born 5 minutes later)

DoctorAllcome · 12/09/2019 18:29

Naked! (Homebirth)

DoctorAllcome · 12/09/2019 18:32

@ConstanzaAndSalieri

Loved your comment “just let me in there”
Reminded me of how the second I got in the pool the pain index would markedly go down a few blessed notches. After my first, it was a must have.

I was already naked by the time the midwife walked back into the room.
I wasn't bothered about her seeing my boobs, her head was going to be getting up close to a much more intimate part of my anatomy.
Also, I hated the feel of any clothes on my skin during labour.

I wore a bra crop top thing :)

OhWifey · 13/09/2019 12:54

Just a bikini top first time. Nothing second time. Made getting baby straight onto the breast totally hassle free

IDrinkAndISewThings · 13/09/2019 12:59

I was naked both times, and the first time I streaked down a corridor (with a waiting area!) to get to the pool, and I can't to this day summon up any embarrassment for it! 😄 you do what you've got to do, no-one was getting in that pool before me!

CmdrCressidaDuck · 13/09/2019 16:56

No bottoms. I was naked, but you can wear a t-shirt/bikini top/bra/whatever you like on your top half. I wouldn't waste much thought on it, for most women labour tends to induce a desire to get anything confining off and a singular lack of caring about who sees you naked.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 13/09/2019 16:57

The reason for no bottoms is that the midwife will be using a mirror under the water to check your progress - they need to be able to see if baby is crowning etc.

I’d packed a bikini top but that was in my bag in the car.

I thought they were going to send me back home but I was 7cm and went straight in the pool. 2hrs later wearing my sports bra, DS was born and DH went to get my bag!

HJWT · 18/09/2019 17:33

@CmdrCressidaDuck its different for everyone, I would of hated my boobs to be out haha xx

theonlyusernameavailable · 18/09/2019 17:47

IDrinkAndISewThings that made me laugh so much!!

I didn't get the chance to try the pool. DD came too quickly. I remember being told by the mw about the pool and what to wear, if anything at all and she said if the dads want to go in that's fine but make sure to bring trunks. She said it was a bit of a shock when she walked into the room with the dad-to-be stood stark bollock naked!

spannerintheneck · 18/09/2019 17:53

First time just a black bra, have taken a bikini top but couldn't work out the straps in the midst of labour so it got forgotten very quickly! This time I am packing a few soft maternity sports bras - hopefully I get to go in the pool this time too!
