IVF sweep and induction

Hi everyone,
I'm currently 36 + 4 pregnant and been advised today that I will have to have a membrane sweep and induction 2-3 days later ( on or around my due date).
I'm abit taken aback because I've been given no reasonable explanation why this is. I've always known that some medical decisions however I expected reasonable explanation and consent to be sought. They simply said I wouldnt be allowed to progress further than due date as this is an IVF pregnancy. Early in my ante natal care the consultant said this was a higher risk pregnancy ( age, BMI, multiple pregnancy etc). But don't recall them stating categorically I would have to be induced.
I feel a bit lost because my hubby and I have had treatment for 8 years, ended up with donor treatment, IUI and IVF. We've had little to no control and the one element I thought we could turns out we won't.
I had hoped to allow things to progress naturally and my personal feelings are that a sweep/induction is forcing the labour before it's been given the chance. Induction can also be a limiting and lengthy process for the labour( from what I've been told) so it's not a route I would have chosen.
Feel we are being railroaded slightly with little to no explanation and expected to play along. This is one of the biggest things to happen to us and I feel our input is slipping away.
Anyone else out there had similar experiences or advice?

Hi OP I'm 23+5 with an ivf baby. I was told at my 16week appointment with consultant that I'll be induced at 39 weeks if I haven't already delivered by then. (39 weeks is actually Christmas Day so it'll be a few days after) they won't book this in until 38 weeks when I've got my last scan. Apparently the reason for this is because there's a higher chance of the placenta detaching in later stages of ivf. This causes a higher percentage of still births in ivf pregnancies.

I personally would refuse a sweep though, there's not enough evidence for me to support that they work.

We also had IVF and were booked in for an induction on my due date, although it wasn’t necessary as she arrived naturally on her due date anyway! I was told this is because the placenta can become less effective after you get past 40 weeks, although different consultants I saw did have different opinions on this. I was happy enough with the planned induction as by the end of the pregnancy I was so anxious just to get her here safely. I also had a couple of sweeps before this but both failed as my cervix was too closed, once my cervix had opened the midwife did another sweep which really got things moving. Goodluck x

Was induced with my fertility treatment baby as evidence suggests that even when corrected for age etc IVF and fertility treatment babies have a higher risk of still birth

@@Lmcg2019 you don’t HAVE to do anything you don’t want! I was told to have an induction (not IVF, another reason) and I declined multiple times. I don’t have any experience of IVF, but your body knows what it is doing. Your body. Your choice. Make an informed decision and be confident with it.
