Hi guys,

I'm due to have a c-section in January with my first baby and we've decided to go with The Portland. I'm desperately trying to find a consultant and was wondering if anyone could share their recommendations from experience? Guy Thorpe-Beeston & Claire Mellon are unavailable.

Also if anyone has a steer on fees too that would be great.

Thanks so much, really appreciate the help as find it really daunting!

I had a c section at The Portland 3 years ago and it was bloody wonderful. If you can afford it don’t even hesitate. We used them for everything from my booking in appointment onwards and it totalled about 23k - the price list will make it look a lot lower but there are constant costs for blood tests, scans, extra appointments etc that really do bump the price up. I stayed for 2 nights although the did say I could go home after 1. I’d still be there now tbh if I didn’t have to come home and look after my dc Grin.

I used Lorin Lakasin and she was brilliant. Really, really calm and reassuring and genuinely lovely too. She works across the road but does c sections at either The Portland or Paddington (can’t remember what the private bits called), whichever is best for you.

The Portland is a lovely hospital, I had some antenatal care with Eleni Mavrides, she was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks for your advice both of you! I have my heart set on The Portland now; I've set up meet and greets with Kevin Harrington, Joseph Iskaros and Colin Davis. I better look into selling a kidney to fund it!

I've also just Emailed Ms Lakasing too! From what I've read all of the consultants are equally skilled, it's more finding one that you get on with- as I'm such an anxious Annie I think I need someone who's either very comforting or can dish out the tough love!
