Vaginal birth with TVT?

Hi, hoping that someone has some experience/ advice!
I've been scouring the internet but there seems to be no information about this one.. I had the TVT (trans vaginal tape) installed few years ago, due to stress incontinence, caused by earlier childbirth.

The consultant at the time said this can only be done once if I'm not planning anymore children. I had the operation, which completely cured my incontinence. However, fast forward 5 years and I am now unexpectedly pregnant again! The pregnancy was not planned but we are very happy and looking forward meeting the new addition. However I'm worried about the birth, due to the tape I have in place. My consultant this time said there is no need for c-section, as any damage to the tape from vaginal birth can be corrected afterwards...I would love to hear from others who have had children after the TVT, did you have c-section or vaginal birth? Any complications? Thank you in advance!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Sorry, but I don’t have any experience of TVT. I just wanted to say that your preferences for how you give birth are valid. If you want to go for another VB, with the potential risk to the integrity of the TVT then go for it. But if you want to avoid the potential of damage to it then you’re well within your rights to push for a CS.

I have a huge amount of respect for the medical profession. But at the end of the day it’s not your consultant who is going to have to live with a possible repair (or the potential that any repair is not as successful at curing your incontinence this time). If it was me I think I wouldn’t want to take that risk and would go for the section, but obviously you might make a different decision. Good luck with it all!Smile

Thank you @sandsnake! I did ask about possibly having caesarean, but the consultant said that the pregnancy and babys weight will do the damage, rather than the actual birth, so no need for one! So far I haven't had any problems (28weeks now) but I'm worried about the birth causing damage which they then can't/ won't repair! I'm seeing another consultant soon, so will ask for a second opinion! The original consultant said any future babies would have to be born via section...

Hi @Ameliel,
Just stumbled across his post... I too have found myself in your exact shoes! I had my TVT done 4 yrs ago and just had my daughter 4 weeks ago. Wish I’d seen your post sooner! How have you got on with your delivery and how have you been with your bladder since?
