Waters breaking at 36 weeks waiting

Hi my waters (think hind) broke on Saturday 24th. Went to hospital they wanted to keep me in and induce me. I was adamant I didn't want this and they were horrible to me . Went back Sunday and yesterday For
Monitoring. They put me on antibiotics. It's still leaking so feeling a bit rubbish. Yesterday the consultant said about sepsis so now terrified I’m going to die.
Has the waters breaking happened to anyone at 36 weeks?

Why wouldn't you listen to what the consultant said to keep you and your baby safe?

It will keep leaking until birth AFAIK

Did they explain the risks to you?

My waters broke at 38 weeks but my contractions start. I was induced the following morning as although I was having some contractions, they weren’t strong enough and the hospital explained that 24 hours after waters breaking there was a risk of infection.

I know I was 2 weeks further on than you but I would listen to the hospital and have an induction.

What is it about the induction that bothers you? I personally would choose a section over an induction - but if you're leaking waters there's a good reason for them wanting to get the baby out.

My waters broke at 35 weeks with my youngest. They started me on antibiotics & decided we would "wait & see" they kept me in hospital & did regular observations (temp, BP as well as trace on baby's heart rate etc) I had steroid injections to help his lungs. As it happens I started to go in to labour 48 hours after my waters went & they carried out the c-section that I'd been planning to schedule for 39weeks the very morning my waters broke.

I am terrified of hospitals and worried about an induction turning into a c section.
Was wanting some support! Confused

My waters broke at 34 weeks, they kept me in for a few days then sent me home. I had to go back every other day to the clinic for monitoring. I was group strep b positive so on oral antibiotics then antibiotics in labour and 5 or so days IV antibiotics for dc when he was born. I was kind of discharged with out a plan of action to be honest. As it was Christmas time and my first dc and I didn't know any different. It was only the midwife a few days before he was born who said she would get the consultant to review me on the next visit in regards to be induced. So I spent two weeks with my waters leaking. I went into labour naturally 35+6 and he was born 36 weeks to the day.

I dont understand why you would go against the drs advice. My waters broke at 37 weeks and they told me if I didnt go into labour within 24 hours I would be induced and given iv antibiotics. I ended up being induced and we had to have the all clear from my consultant before discharge the next evening.

I understand you are not keen on hospital but I dont think you understand the risk to you and baby. Thry dont advise you to stay as they are looking for people to look after. If you feel you know best why did you bother to seek medical advice in the 1st place?

cb700 that’s understandable but there are good reasons for them monitoring how long you go with waters leaking without going into labour as the risk of infection is there. You didn’t say you were worried about a section in your OP.

I was induced and did end up having a section because my baby started to get distressed and it was safest for both of us. But I could have continued labouring on my own and needed a section anyway. You don’t know what’s going to happen in labour. You could be induced and labour naturally or you could go into labour on your own and end up with a section.

Maybe you should ask to speak to the consultant again and try and form a plan for if you don’t go into labour on your own. Would that help you feel less worried?

Personally I'd listen to the consultant! Nothing wrong with an induction at 36 weeks....

My waters with DC2 broke at 35 weeks, they gave me IV antibiotics and then induced me on the drip. She was born 6 hours later, a much easier birth than with DC1 who I wasn't induced with

Well my waters broke at 34 but then led to very quick labours. But if your waters break early you may go a little while without having babby but it can lead to problems with can endanger baby. So you would have to be cosely monitored at best.

I would listen to the medical advice you're being given - they're just trying to ensure you and the baby remain safe. I had a baby at 36w and she was absolutely fine. However, I went into labour and so didn't have the infection risk that leaking waters represents.

Fwiw, I was desperate to have a water birth, just gas and air etc but ended up with an emcs. Nothing to do with her being early, just one of those things. It was honestly fine. I get being scared, but you're more likely to have something go wrong by ignoring consultant advice than you are by having a recommended induction.

My waters with my now 5 year old went at 35 weeks. Went with wait and see approach because one of my other children was born at 35 weeks and has long term complications. 9 days later I got an infection so I was induced which failed and I had a c-section. If I could go back and make the choice again I would choose to have a c-section at 35 weeks

Induction was best thing for me both times my waters went at 37 weeks but I thought it was wee so ignored it, it was only when I started to feel rough a week later I went up to ask for advice and they induced me the same hour I had an infection and so did my son, we was both fine but had to go on antibiotics drip. Honestly rather induction than just waiting around to be honest it's okay

Please can folks stop ticking the OP off. She made a decision days ago - not like she can reverse it now. It is also perfectly legal to listen to medical advice and decide it's not in your best interests to take it.

It's not what I would have done, but hey.

OP I was induced at 35w and the birth proceeded fine, as far as labour went. Now you know what has been said about sepsis, why don't you ask to speak to someone about the chances of a successful induction v would they do a section, and see what you think then?

Have the induction and see how things go - won’t necessarily turn into a c section and even if it does, the aim here is for you to be well and the baby to be born safely.

Mine broke at 35 weeks, like a leak every time I stood up. I went to the hospital convinced I was peeing myself (first pregnancy). My waters has been leaking for about 12 hours before I went in so they kept me in, started antibiotics (my Strep B test result hadn’t come back yet) and was induced. I had my gorgeous son 12 hours later and went home with him the next day.

I really would advise you to take the doctors and midwives advice, I know it can be scary but it’s best for you and baby.

Op I know you are scared but please, I was induced and had a very straight forward labour. Everything went smoothly! Just gas and air, no forceps or c section. Please take drs advice as it's what's safest not just for LO but for you also. Hope all is well x

Please download AIMS-Inducing labour making an informed decision. You can get it on a kindle or buy a hard copy. It is a great source of evidence based guidance and gives information on the actual risks of infection.
My waters broke at 37weeks and I waited 5 days. Was monitored daily and had declined internals to avoid risk of infection. I regularly checked my own temp and kept and eye on the leaking waters. Eventually I got tired of waiting and went for an induction. It was fine. I had an epidural sited at the same time as the synto and of my three births it was the most gentle and present one (had a previous induction and a previous spontaneous). The hospital never pressured me into induction. They also offered me a c-section. Just having that option on the table allowed me to relax.
Keep active but also rested and well nourished. Try to not to get too anxious (I know that is tough) and Good luck xxx

I was induced at 41 weeks with ds 24 hours after my waters broke and still no contractions. Also induced with dd at 39 weeks, both quick, straight forward labours with no other intervention.

Please listen to the drs. My waters broke at 35 weeks. Hospital kept me in for 1 night to see if I went into labour and then sent me home with antibiotics. I didn’t feel right and didn’t feel my baby move the next day. I went straight back to the hospital. They put me on the trace and my babies heart rate was over 190! 15 mins later I was rushed in for an emergency c section. I had a baby girl. I couldn’t hold her for 3 days as she needed extra care. Her infection markers were very high and they treat her for sepsis and meningitis. She was in hospital 2 weeks and they put it down to sepsis due to foul smelling infected waters. They broke on the Friday and I had thesevtion on the Sunday so it happened so quick! They sent me home to try n get me to 37 weeks! If I hadn’t of gone with my gut and went in on that Sunday she wouldn’t be here. They shouldn’t of sent me home x
