Period after birth

Hi all,

Is it normal for my period to be so on and off after the birth of my baby? I'm passed the lochia phase and am 11 weeks post natal so this is my period for sure. I've started a progesterone only pill around 5 weeks and should have a regular period even though the pills are continuous, but I keep stopping and starting with only days in between. I'm so confused. Any ideas?

Are you not breastfeeding at all?

you don't always get a regular period with the POP and some women don't get a period. I would give it at least 3 months to settle down unless you have any other symptoms. Congrats BTW.

No he's bottle fed but my breasts were leaking right up until around week 8. No other symptoms really except from a bit of pain, which is like a full ache from time to time. Kind of like cramp but not as intense. Should have mentioned that I had a c-section. Not sure if that affects anything. I've had endometriosis but had it removed last year before falling pregnant, I'm worrying this could be related. It just seems so weird how I can be bleeding in the morning and have nothing there in the evening. 🤷🏻‍♀️. X

Maybe worth speaking to a doctor if things don't settle soon?

I also had a c-section and DS was bottle fed. I can't remember how long the boobs leaked for (but it was a while). I literally got my period 4 weeks after the baby and it's been regular.

Thanks ladies, yeah I think I'm going to see a doctor. I wasn't expecting it to be regular just yet it's just the stopping and starting that's bothering me and the pain. Thanks again x

DS is 11 weeks now. I had post-birth bleeding for around 4-5 weeks. Then after about 3 weeks, got a period for a week, then again about a week or two later. Some days really light, others no blood at all and others really heavy.

I've started a new pill too and just putting it down to the pill settling. I've experienced similar in the past on new pills.

It sounds like the mini pill hasn't settled down, I was put on it & was like that for months. Have you thought of swapping to the combined pill? It is now acceptable to take it back to back for 3 months at a time so only have a withdrawal bleed 4 or 5 times a year.

I might explore the combined pill actually. I'm only on a progesterone only one because it was suggested by the surgeon who removed the endometriosis. But it might not be necessary. I'll finish the pack and see how I get on and see if this settles down.
