Membrane sweeps - success stories

Hi

Anyone actually gone into labor following a membrane sweep? I know a few women who've had them but they didn't seem to make a difference.

I've been told that a sweep is the only type of intervention which I can have (providing my cervix is favorable) due to previous EMCS and failed induction.

Do they work?

I had a successful one, 3 days overdue, sweep was 11am, mild pains started an hour later, I walked for a couple of hours, slept a couple of hours, then 9pm the pains got worse and baby born 11pm.

Had one with second born at 40+5. Sweep was about 11am, midwife said it was easy and that she expected labour within 48 hours. I went home and had lunch then a mammoth 4 hour nap on the sofa. Collected 3 year old daughter from nursery and bathed her. Halfway through her bedtime story, I felt the first twinge. Couldn't finish the story as contractions ramped up immediately. Gave birth 20 minutes later on hallway floor before any midwives or paramedics could get to me. Fortunately DP and sister had both got home to assist with birth/shield DD from what was happening! Had a huge tear as no midwife there to manage the crowning but still felt amazing the next day, completely different to when I was induced first time round and the after effects of all the drugs. Pg with DC3 now and will be going for as many sweeps as I can before succumbing to an induction. Will be requesting the same midwife too!

Had one at 38 plus 1 due to several visits for lack of movements. Pretty sure I was already in slow labour as felt odd for a couple of days anyway. Doctor said I was 1cm already. Went home and went to bed. Contractions started with a bang at half 3 and had DD 7 hours later.

I had one with first DD. Was 40+5. Went in and consultant said I was already 3 1/2 cm dilated (which in hindsight very helpful). Gave me a sweep about 3pm and told me he expected me to be back that night in labour. Started contractions at 5pm which came very quick and regularly, one pretty much every five minutes. Got to hospital at 6pm (after two amusing phone calls 20 mins apart saying "just calling to say I'm having contractions but paracetamol is fine" to "yeah I'm coming in now!".
DD born at 1:20am so 9 1/2 ish labour.
So, mine worked but I think being 3 1/2cm dilated already helped a lot!
Good luck!

I had one today at 36+6 - medical reasons for getting the little one out before dates. I fully expect nothing to happen as my Bishop Score was only 6. I was quite surprised she could do anything at this stage tbh. Will report back if anything exciting happens!

My 1st I was 40+2 had a sweep at 2pm and was in labour by 10pm, had her the next day at 3.53pm.
This time I've not been as lucky, had a sweep at 10am yesterday, 40+1, was already 4cm dilated but still nothing!
Got another booked for Sunday so hoping this one works.
