After pains

I gave birth around a week ago to my first Baby. Last night I had intense contraction like pains. I can only assume this was after pains but I’ve also read that people don’t tend to feel them with the first born and they get words with each subsequent child?

I’ll ask the midwife when she visits but wondered if anyone has the same afterpains?

I had a quite a difficult experience when in labour so having these pains brought it all back.

I'd say it's very normal, I had them with both my first and second babies, I felt like they were a bit worse with my second. But it's very normal to get after birth, and will settle down soon xx

You have my sympathy, mine were awful. They should settle really soon

Same thing happened to me on my first baby OP. I actually never heard of afterpains until I experienced them after a pretty traumatic delivery. 😳
I've had 2 babies since and haven't had them (slight cramping but nothing like the first time).

Sorry to hear you had a difficult time, get some support for that as it stays with you.
Afterpains are normal, take some paracetamol, but mention them to your midwife.

Thanks everyone. I informed the the midwife and she said they were normal too. I just read you don’t often feel them for your 1st child.

I was waiting for the after pains to hit me but they never came and she's 5 weeks old! Maybe it was dulled down by hand reaching inside to remove my placenta for 2 hours 😭
