Looking for some advice, how long after a episiotomy( I think it's called) did you start having sex again? Is it extremely painful?

TIA x

I waited until I stopped bleeding, about 4 weeks. However I think the advice is to wait 6?

Didn’t hurt at all! But I was really nervous. It actually felt...ahem...looser 🙈 It did tighten back up a few weeks later!

If you don’t feel ready don’t rush. X

Opposite to PP here I’m afraid - I first tried intercourse at 12 weeks and he had to be super gentle as it was tender. It stayed tender until about 9 months after birth. After that no problems whatsoever. No looseness / tightness at all. Just like pre-birth.

At 6 weeks, just before the six week check. It was all fine.

I bled for a solid 5 or 6 weeks after birth, then had 2 weeks of no bleeding then my period! I’m sure it was about 10-12 weeks after birth we tried and it was really really painful so we stopped. It took another few weeks to try again. So probably 12-15 weeks(ish).

I’m almost 3 years post birth and it gets sore still.

Wait until the stitch line has healed and you’ve stopped bleeding, OP.
Then have a very gentle test run, with plenty of lube, and you on top so you can control the degree of movement/pressure and judge whether it’s ok or not.
Everyone’s different, and there are variables such as how skilfully the epis was performed and sutured, how good your healing is, whether there was any infection etc.
It’s a good idea to have at least one attempt before your six week check up, so you can flag up any problems you encounter. Good luck!

I tore and had and episiotomy. I didn’t have my 6-8 week check until 8 weeks had gentle sex at 7 weeks to check everything was ok. I was slightly uncomfortable (but I was very tense) but not painful

hopefulhalf · 08/08/2019 20:58

I think it was 2 weeks- it was fine.

Leftiefterson · 08/08/2019 20:59

I had a small incision and was sore for about a week and then I felt back to normal. We had sex quite soon after, probably too soon but it felt fine. Agree with going on top, you can control better that way.

It’s whatever you feel comfortable with OP. Probably TMI but plenty of foreplay as I felt quite tight to begin with.

Twickerhun · 08/08/2019 21:01

About12 weeks as it was to painful to contemplate any earlier

Teddybear45 · 08/08/2019 21:01

If it was a cut and not a tear then it should be okay as soon as the bleeding stops. But I personally wouldn’t until it has all been checked out.

Rainbowbabyc · 09/08/2019 23:20

Thank you for all the replies! Bleeding is slowing down now sorry about tmi but it's more of a discharge very strange stuff not sure if it's normal, I can't feel my stitches as much anymore so think I might see how next week goes (4 weeks after)
