Big baby

Does anybody have any experience of being induced or offered elcs for a big baby? I've had two growth scans and baby is tracking the 95th centile. From today's scan she is 3.2 kgs at 36+4. Dd was 8lbs10 and being a very small frame myself (I'm 4ft 11) I think any bigger is probably a risk to both mine and babys health. I have an appointment with a consultant tomorrow to discuss the scan results. Are they likely to bring this up and if not am I able to request early induction?

My baby measured huge. The consultant literally poo pooed my idea of a water birth and told me that I should be induced early.
I was induced at 39 weeks but it ended up wit an emergency C-section. DS was 10lb10oz (so huge even though I’m 5’11).

I was offered an induction at 38 weeks but declined and booked a c section at 39 weeks. DD was born by vbac at 38+1 and was 8lb 11oz.

The hospital agreed to me labouring in water but delivering out of the water.

My DS was off the 91st centile on growth scans so I was offered induction at 38 weeks due to this and the fact I had GD.

He was born via EMCS 2 days after induction weighing 7lb 5, he was really quite small!

My first went to EMCS because he was 9lb 4oz - the obstetrician who carried out the CS told me I’d never be able to give birth naturally if I was to have another of the same size due to the size of my pelvic ring. His head never (and would never have) engaged as it was like getting a bowling ball to the bottom of a pedal bin - my waters broke but I never went into labour at all, even with 12 hours of induction, because apparently the head has to make contact with the cervix to trigger labour. So my second went straight to ELCS - just as well because he was 9lb 6.5oz.

I believe it is no longer in the NICE guidelines to offer intervention for an expected big baby

Incidentally, I was also told my baby was going to be very large. I ended up being induced on my DD for pre-eclampsia and my LG weighed just 7lb 6oz.

I was the other way round. Had a scan as ds was ten days overdue and was told that he would be an average size of 7lb or so. He was born ten hours later weighing 9lb 5oz....so I’m quite sceptical about being able to work out weight from a scan. I was tiny at the time - about 7 and a half stone - but still managed to deliver successfully. Midwife said that gravity helps with a big baby!!!!

Scans told me my baby was going to be huge and doctors said they dont induce/c section on size of baby. I eas suitably terrified but laboured in pool and gave birth outside of pool to a whopping 9lb 12oz baby with no teara. I did have a big bleed though and it was second baby.

I apparently had a baby who had stopped growing at 36 weeks. 7lbs at the most. Was induced and gave birth to a 9lb baby 🙄 growth scans are very often not accurate!

My consultant has just mentioned I think about induction at 39 weeks. Currently 32 with ICSI baby. Going for another scan at 37 weeks to see about babys growth as apparently it's going to be a big one!

@homley are they talking about induction because of size of baby? They aren't following current NICE guidelines if that is why. Guidelines are available online for you to check

Dd was born by emcs and was 8lb 10oz. I'm 38+3 with dd2. Growth scans have put her above 95th centile since 32 weeks. Her head measurement has been particularly large. They have estimated her to be 10lbs+ if I go to 40 weeks.

Because of my precious c section they can't induce you in the same way (syntocin drip) because it increases the risk of uterine rupture. So the plan was to leave me until 41 weeks and try a gentle induction if I hadn't gone into labour naturally. I've actually changed my mind and asked for an elcs (booked for 39+3).

My consultant was quite honest and said that the threshold for intervention may be a lot lower due to baby's size and previous section. So I would need to make pretty good progress dilating, and the pushing stage would be quite short before they start suggesting intervention. Plus I'd need continuous monitoring, cannula placed as soon as I get there due to it being a VBAC. I just wasn't liking to odds of getting the calm relaxed natural birth I wanted.
