Hi Ladies,

Can anyone help me with quantity?!

How many new nappies do I need size 1 and size 2?

How many muslins are actually needed?

How many breast pads?!

How many packs of nappy barrier cream, nipple cream?!

How many maternity pads and what size?!

Help!

Thanks in advance Smile

OP unless you are somewhere unusually remote the shops will exist once your baby is here - so I would not buy too much of anything - except maternity pads which can be tricky to track down and you will likely need several packets as large and soft as you can find. I was quite lucky and only really needed nipple pads for a few days so one box was fine. My babies could all fit size 2 nappies from birth.

Sorry, should have said - will be living fairly remotely and won't have access to shops all the time so like to stock up. Smile

For nappies I would just get the one pack of size 1's - a lot of babies go through them super fast with some not even using them at all.

Sorry, posted too soon!

I got a bunch of muslins out of Aldi - they're handy for mopping up pee or sick and also make a nice thin blanket for when it's hot. My little boy has started to teeth now and likes to chew on a muslin! I think I got maybe 3 or 4 3-packs before my son arrived which is plenty!

I went through 2 big boxes of breast pads - I didn't breast feed, but leaked a lot! I can't comment on balms or anything as I formula feed.

I bought 6 packs of Tena Ladies overnight pads which worked fab as maternity pads - there is 6 pads in each pack and I had one pack left when I moved onto thinner pads.

I read threads like this in here and subsequently purchased the "ideal" amount of everything and ended up with far too many. I only used one pack of maternity pads (and only finished that as wanted to use it up) and found the disposable breast pads itchy so got some really nice reusable bamboo ones instead. Also got two boxes of nipple cream and barely got through one as I didn't have any feeding issues which is annoying as it's expensive.

However, I did need more size one nappies than expected as he was in them for over a month. And we had to buy newborn clothes as he didn't fit 0-3 months properly until closer to 3 months even though he weighed 7lbs at birth.

Summary = everyone is different and no one can tell you quantities in advance. FYI we are only on our second pot of nappy cream and he's over 5 months, it goes really far.

Is this for hospital or at home?

Nappies - depends how long you’re in hospital for. Take 10, but you might only need 2 or 3 before you go home. At home, just buy one bag for now.

Take the number of pads you think you might need and triple it! I was wearing two at a time the first day. Thick ones are best - provide a bit of cushioning as well if things are achy down there.

Muslins - I think we’ve got about a million.

Breast pads - you might not need them for the first day - you can buy reusable ones to wash in a pack of 6 I think they’re better.

Creams - one each for now.

How many new nappies do I need size 1 and size 2? No idea. Our baby was in 0 for about 3 weeks. It depends if your baby is long and slim or short and round.

How many muslins are actually needed? Depends on if they are sicky and how often you wash. We needed about 20 but now he is 9 months 3 is sufficient.

How many breast pads?! Still using these 9 months on!

How many packs of nappy barrier cream, nipple cream?! One.

How many maternity pads and what size?! I think I used about 7 packs.

How many new nappies do I need size 1 and size 2? I used the free packs of size one nappies when I had DD. Don’t buy too many packs as they can quickly be out of size one. DD was in size 1 for about a month.

How many muslins are actually needed?
I bought a couple of packs. DD wasn’t a vomity baby. However, many are!

How many breast pads?!
I bought a couple of packs but never got on with them so didn’t use.

How many packs of nappy barrier cream, nipple cream?! Again, I got lots of free nappy barrier creams so I just used them for a while. DD didn’t nappy rash so one pot lasted for ages. Again you baby may be more prone to nappy rash

I used one tube of lashinoh but I was fortunate with very good latch

How many maternity pads and what size?
I think in got through about 4 boxes

Personally, I would get not get too much stuff as you don’t know how how baby will be and you can always pop the shops to get more (or send your partner)

How many new nappies do I need size 1 and size 2?

I bought 2x packs of size 1 nappies and never used the second packet as he went into size 2 after 2 weeks of age. If you've not got great access to shops, then get 2/3 jumbo packs of size 2 nappies, then you won't need to worry while you're recovering.

How many muslins are actually needed?

I read so many things online about people saying you can never have too many muslins and never understood it. Trust me, if it's one thing you buy a truck load of then let this be it. I have a very sicky baby and get through 3-4 muslins a day. I have about 30 altogether and due to how often they need washing, I only ever have 2/3 available!

How many breast pads?!

I only got one pack. Only breastfed for two weeks but then leaked for weeks 3 and 4. I think the pack size was 50 and that was enough.

How many packs of nappy barrier cream, nipple cream?!

I had one big pot of sudocrem and my son is 11 weeks old. We use it every day and it's still 3/4 full because it's so thick you don't need much. You might not even need nipple cream so I'd just get one tube. It lasts a good while anyway, but rubbing some milk into your nipples after a feed can be just as soothing.

How many maternity pads and what size?!

I got through 6-7 pads a day for the first week and then 3-4 for the second and third weeks. Then the bleeding lessened so I just used normal sanitary towels from the third week onwards.

MyNameIsRachel · 12/08/2019 21:01

This is quite interesting. Maternity pads for example I used 10 a day for 8 weeks!

That said I never ever used pads for periods only tampons so I never thought of them Hmm

FairyDust92 · 12/08/2019 21:09

I had two packs of the Asda maternity pads. I found them the best maternity pads as other shops they were rough and thin but the Asda ones were really thick. When I started to bleed lighter I just used regular pads though.

I brought a lot of nappies. Pampers were on offer so I brought about 4 packs of size 1's and 2 aldi ones. Soon realised my little boy goes through lots of nappies! 😂 he's only 5 weeks now and goes through a lot. I've gone on to size 2 now.as for nappy cream I just brought the two tubs, one from home and one for the changing bag. Muslins I also got about 10 of. I over brought on a lot but that's just who I am 😂

Buy a bottle of witch hazel for your pads. If you have stitches it will be your best friend.
