Cold sore treatment before birth

Before my son was born five years ago, I got a huge and really painful coldsore between my mouth and nose. Obviously they are really risky to the baby and so I had to be super careful for the first few weeks not to kiss him, or let anything that had been near my mouth touch him and so on.

It made the situation much more stressful and it's pretty heartbreaking to have a perfect baby that you can't even kiss.

I'm expecting another baby in September, and I think I've read on here somewhere that there is a preventative medication that GPs can prescribe, that would reduce the chance of a coldsore over the few weeks before and after the birth.

Has anyone any experience of this? Do you know the name of the medication? I have a GP appointment next week so could certainly ask.

I was prescribed aciclovir which I took for a month before due date. It's meant to reduce the chances. Also think about the your triggers - lack of sleep, stress, diet...
I really hope you don't get one. It really is a curse Sad
