Days long labour 1st time round - what was 2nd labour like?

Inspired by the other thread regarding a fast labour 1st time round.

I had a very long latent labour and then active labour that lasted a couple days and 2 hours of pushing which ended in forcep delivery for my first labour. In fairness, DS was back-to-back so that probably didn't really help move things along well.

For those who had similar, what was subsequent labours like?

DS 36 hours then EMCS
DD 45 min!

CaptainCallisto · 19/05/2019 17:53

Both of mine were back-to-back.

DS1 - 73 hours
DS2 - 38 hours

Nearly didn't make it for DS2 because I was sitting there about 30 hours in going "we've got days yet, there's no point going in" Grin

First labour very similar to you, baby was back to back as well and ended up with forceps. Second baby also back to back but managed to labour at home from 9pm to 3.30am, got to hospital and noticed pain had moved from back to my front and he was born in the water 4.15am! So much much better despite back to back as well so try not to worry about that aspect of it as I did and there was no need in the end! All the best!

DS1 - 20 hrs
DD1 - 20 hrs

Both at 39+6

Waiting to see what happens with DC3!

ImnotawitchImyourwife · 20/05/2019 10:31

DS1: waters broke, nothing happening 24hrs later so went in for induction. 25 hrs of labour with increasing levels of intervention and an epidural working only on one side, failure to progress leading to EMCS, heavy blood loss, haematoma and a wound that refused to knit for weeks. A thoroughly awful ordeal.

DS2: waters broke, 2 hrs later contractions started, DS was in my arms 8 hours after that after an uncomplicated labour. It was wonderful!

DD is due tomorrow. I’m really hoping she takes after her youngest brother!

Good luck!

TwittleBee · 20/05/2019 11:17

Thank you all, feeling rather more relaxed now!

ImnotawitchImyourwife good luck!! Hopefully not long for you now

1st labour - 70 some odd hours including 2 pushing .

2nd labour - 1hr 58mins

JeantheHipster · 20/05/2019 11:21

Apart from forceps your first experience is similar to mine. Second labour was 12 hours from first contraction to baby but pushing was about 10 mins!

ReginaGeorgeous · 22/05/2019 21:16

I've had two back to back babies.

1st labour at 40+6 - 46 hours, waters broke right at the start. Had a drip to speed things up 24 hours later having failed to progress beyond 2cm. DD born by forceps in a terrible state requiring 5 days in NICU.

2nd labour at 41+3 - 17 hours. Was stuck at 3cm dilated for ages despite having contractions every two minutes. Waters broke at 4cm dilated and DS was born three hours later.
