Induction

Hi, I'm a first time mum and a first time poster. I am currently 40+5 with no signs of bub arriving. I am due to have an induction at 40+12 but I was wondering if its worth my partner starting his paternity leave on that day and coming to the hospital with me knowing it could be a long drawn out process or if he should just go to work like normal and I can call him when needed (he works about 15/20 minutes away from the hospital)

What's everyones opinions on this? I don't want to waste his paternity leave sitting in a hospital with no bub.

Given the short distance, and assuming he'll be okay to just walk out when you call - I'd probably do as you propose. Only going to be a couple of days in it, and it may well not take that long - but there's not much point him hanging about waiting for things to get going.

Think it depends how happy you are to be on your own for the first few hours. Yes it can take time, or it can be quick. To be honest, I was nervous and so wanted my husband there from the start. Best of luck to you x

I was induced with my first and looking likely to be with my second (currently 40+5). It took 3 days for the baby to arrive and us be discharged that it felt like our time at home was really limited, rather than having the 2 weeks of DH there. This time I have said I will let him know when something is actually happening, I can keep myself entertained.

There is much more help/support/enjoyment to be gained once the baby is actually on their way, than sitting in the hospital waiting.

100% call when he's needed, it can be long and drawn out and it won't happen instantly for sure!

I was given the a peasary at 4:30pm and the baby arrives 11:30 the next morning. It was nice to have my husband there with me at the hospital, but if I have to I could easily have been alone. Good luck - hopefully you’ll not need induced, and your partner can spend all his paternity leave with you and a new baby!

I would take someone with you, might be worth checking if hospital will let you come home whilst you wait.
As your partner us nearby, you could call him when needed. Good luck 💚

My hospital wouldn’t let mine in anyway as it was after hours when they finally inserted it, and it took over 24 hours anyway. And they wouldn’t let me out to go home (or leave the ward) as they insisted on constant monitoring.

My induction took 3 days. My DH started his pl on the 3rd day as we knew the baby would be coming that day... I came close to a CS!
It can be a lot of waiting around. I would save it until you know it's working.

My husband came but I sent him home again, we were there 5 long days! Luckily his work were great and didn’t start counting until baby arrived. For sure next time he won’t come until baby is actually arriving. Take a good book and some music to keep you occupied.

Thank you all. Think I'm going to go up by myself or have my mum come with me and only get my partner to come up when it's nearer the time. Both of us would rather value the time at home than sitting in the hospital.
