Is it possible to start labour when you have had one of these put in. I am unsure of what it is for tbh. My DD has had one put in this morning but I don’t want to keep texting her with ridiculous questions so thought you lot could help me out. If anyone has had this for induction what happened?

It just gets the contractions going. Mine took about 8 hours to properly work but I had period pains quite soon after they put it in.

Answer is yes.. If she has a pessary induction It means labour can start any time

I had it inserted at 7.30, contractions started around midnight, baby arrived at 4.30 that afternoon. I was all prepared for it to be in 24 hours and not do anything as can happen so was (pleasantly) surprised at how fast it worked.

I had one put in at 4:30pm, contractions started very quickly and baby arrived at 2:30am next morning.

The 24 hour pessaries are designed to ripen the cervix to a point where the waters can be broken. However some women will go in to active labour with them. Most women will have it in for the full 24 hours and then have further processes so she may still have quite a while yet.

They are now talking about removing it at 2.30 after 30 hours and leaving her for 24 hour s then trying again. She is going to insist on a c section she has had 7 days in hospital her DP has had 7 days of his 2 week leave and she is fed up of being prodded and poked. Not sure what her rights are with the CSection but she sounded very insistent on the phone to me!
