Pregnant with first baby, due end of June. Nearly 5 years ago I had a horse riding accident a burst my L1 vertebrae. I was VERY lucky not to be paralysed or worse. Emergency surgery, lots of metal and 18 month recovery. Had metalwork out after 18 months as it restricted movement too much.

Saw a consultant, she’s waiting to hear back from my surgeon re whether my back will be strong enough to push. I also need to see if my scaring allows an epidural. Have an appt in the next few weeks to discuss.

I suppose my question is, if the answer is ‘we don’t know how it’ll affect you’ which is generally what happens, has anyone had a similar injury & experience of labour they can share? I just don’t know what to do if I’m given a choice. My back has been ok so far (nearly 30 weeks) except flying yesterday but it always hurts if I sit up too long regardless of pregnancy.

Unfortunately I also have a low lying placenta, which hadn’t moved at 28 wks so have another scan at 34 wks to check again.

Sorry for the long post, Dr Google hasn’t really helped me much and I’m impatient waiting for my next appt!
