Is there a risk of infection. You should get yourself checked out.

BikeRunSki · 13/03/2019 21:32

I did! I just put it down to the cold i’d started before dc was born.

raffle · 13/03/2019 21:33

Temp and chills could be symptoms of infection. Hope not, but you should get seen as soon as possible

Yearofchange · 13/03/2019 21:34

Definitely get checked out tonight - you could have an infection and it’s really important that you see a Dr to get onto antibiotics if that is the case. Suggest ringing your out of hours right now, please don’t wait as infections post delivery can escalate quickly if they’re left untreated.

BagelDog · 13/03/2019 21:34

The exhaustion may just be new motherhood.... but the temperature is concerning. You should still be able to contact the post natal midwives and chat with them but this is worth getting reviewed and they can get more details and advise on the timescale, wether you can be seen tomorrow or need to be seen tonight. Post natal infections can be nasty but are eminently treatable, give them a call and go from there.

BagelDog · 13/03/2019 21:35

Or yes it may just be a cold. But better to call and get checked out!

Haggisfish · 13/03/2019 21:36

Yep, call ward NOW for advice. You need to start antibiotics ASAP if you have a fever and they think it may be infection. Have you got a thermometer to take your temp?

Sunshinegirl82 · 13/03/2019 21:40

I'd call post natal or triage to be assessed tonight. Might be an infection so best to be safe.

Different circumstances but I called post natal ward 10 days after DS was born due to a blinding headache and they got me straight back in to triage to be checked out. I had pre-eclampsia and was immediately readmitted. Might be worth taking an overnight bag for you and baby just in case. I hope you feel better soon.

Please call the out of hours number have been given straight away. You are at high risk of sepsis. Please don't delay. Make sure someone is with you and call an ambulance if you start to feel worse

RebeccaCloud9 · 13/03/2019 22:54

Get checked out to be sure.

However, I had the same thing. After going for a walk a few days after c section, I got the chills and was physically shaking so hard with the cold, comedy teeth chatter too. I had it a few times and my DP bundled me up in bed with a big blanket until I went back to normal. The midwife said it was quite common, I think related to the anaesthetic?

MaverickSnoopy · 13/03/2019 22:58

I had it and was told I had gastroenteritis. Eventually found out 7 days postpartum that I had endometritis (v bad infection). I ended up on 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it. Of course that's not to say that's what you've got. I would however get to out of hours asap.

Princessdebthe1st · 13/03/2019 23:14

Dear OP,
I am a HCP. You are post partum and have had major surgery, you are therfore at high risk of sepsis. Your symptoms are concerning. Please call the post natal ward and ask to be seen. If you can't get seen by them then go to A&E.
