Hypnobirthing - any experiences to share?

I am a first time mum expecting my baby this summer. I’m unable to have spinal blocks or an Epidural and so hoping to try hypnobirthing before progressing onto pain meds if needed.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Would you recommend? Did it help? Any tips?

Please be kind 🙂

Thank you!

I followed Maggie Howell’s book ‘Effective Birth Preparation’ meticulously for my second DS from about 6 months onwards. Was honestly very empowering and I feel helped me get to 6cm whilst telling myself it was just braxton hicks (no drugs at all except gas and air). If books are followed closely I feel they really work - much cheaper than the classes too. I also downloaded a few hypnobirthing cds for when I was in labour to help breathe through the contractions.

Pregnancy yoga also helps in preparing you to breathe through contractions. Will be following the same for my 3rd this year.

I hope that helps. Your midwife should have some good recommendations on hypnobirthing classs etc too!
