I just wanted to check this was OK. I am booked to be induced tomorrow morning if contractions dont pick up. I asked the midwife if it was OK to have a bath in the meantime and she said yes - but my waters are still leaking out so wanted to check views on here?
thanks!

no bath

lulumama · 08/07/2007 21:24

no....shower fine....

dizzyheather · 08/07/2007 21:24

oh, exciting....
to be honest i cant remember if it is ok or not...... just have a quick shower and get to bed as you will need your energy for tomorrow...

actually , suggest you sit and watch telly for a bit and stimulate your nipples, constantly as it really does bring on contractions, i did it with each of mine and it worked a treat. good luck

yep you should be fine, mind you I'm not speaking from experience, as my waters only ever have broken, just as I'm at the pushing stage

lucykate · 08/07/2007 21:25

after my waters broke with dd, i went in, got checked, then went home again and told to either come back in when pain got unbearable, or come back at 12 the next day for induction if didn't start by itself. first thing i did when we got home was jump in the bath for an hour. i only got out because my contractions started coming thick and fast and i felt the need to be more mobile.

my midwife suggested i have a bath, so think its safe for you to do so. good luck!

nipple stim....will help with contractions

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 21:28

I had several baths - my waters leaked for a few days, but this was all 10 yrs ago,so thoughts might have changed

CurleyShirley · 08/07/2007 21:29

brilliant, thanks all. will try the nipples, and any other tips for getting the contractions going would be good (it has been 24 hours now).

NICE guidlines allow 96 hour before induction after PROM though.. don;t have to be induced tomorrow if you don;t want to and don;t feel ready

dizzyheather · 08/07/2007 21:32

honestly once you get starting with the nips it wont be long.......it gets a bit boring mind as i had to sit and do it for 5 hours with my middle child, but it did work.

mamama · 08/07/2007 21:38

have a shower instead. Best of luck...

expatinscotland · 08/07/2007 21:46

But what if you're having a water birth?

I mean, that's sitting in a bath.

Do they not let you have a water birth if your waters have gone?

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 08/07/2007 21:48

sorry but pmsl at stimming nipples

Good luck and hope all goes well

My waters were leaking and I was told I couldn't have a bath, just showers, because of the danger of infection. They sent me home with strips to check my temperature every 4 hours in case of infection. I think its different with a water birth as the baby is likely to be born within the next few hours, but with leaking waters it could still be several days before the baby is born. Good luck, hoe it goes well for you.

I came across this a while back and it gives some interesting points, not sure I'd bath after waters gone, depends on circumstances I guess, but ultimately it's each individual's decision, isn't it?

dizzyheather · 09/07/2007 12:23

any news curleyshirley ?

massivebigpantsface · 09/07/2007 12:27

my waters broke a while before having any contractions, i was told that i could have a bath, which i did. i was booked for inuction at the 96th hour, but luckily dd came about 8o hours after waters broke!
good luck!

massivebigpantsface · 09/07/2007 12:28

i also used a birthing pool for a few hours but was being given antibiotics in case of infection.

Miaou · 09/07/2007 12:29

My m/w told me that I was fine to have a bath if my waters had gone. AFAIK unless there is meconium in the waters you are fine to do so.

Lyndag · 16/07/2007 20:39

I did after my waters went and DD was born fine

Surfnicky · 16/07/2007 20:43

I've been told that a bath is fine, as long as you don't use any bath 'products' - bubbles, shampoo or conditoner, etc etc
