How long does NHS recommend waiting after a csection?

I had a c section last year and want to try for another baby. I'm reading differing information on how long you should wait before trying after a c section. Does it make any difference to the recommended gap if your want a VBAC or another c section?

My midwife and doctor recommended at least a year wait. Anything after is a bonus.

You can choose a VBAC even if you get pregnant within less than a year. I have known people to achieve a VBAC when they got oregnsnr after 3 months!

I think it depends on your circumstances. If you are 45 you might be told to wait at least 6 months. If you are 25 you might be told to wait at least 18 months, as you wouldn't typically have other things to worry about like how much longer you will be fertile. If you have had a few c sections the advice might be different again.

If you wanted a vbac I think the risk of uterine rupture would be higher the less time you have given the c section scar to heal.

You could do some research to see what RCOG recommends? Read their guidelines on c sections I am sure there will be something in there.

Asked my doctor this at 6 week check on Friday and she told me to crack on with trying and take folic acid. Said she knew someone with 3 under 4, all csection. Said some male obsetricians say 6 months but it isn't necessary. Hospital midwife also told me I was fine to start immediately, only person who told me otherwise was my own midwife but even then she told me to check with my doctor x

Same as Roughday! Due my 2nd c section in 2.5weeks. There will be 11 months between my kids.
The consultant said 'ideally' a year. But plenty of women have second surgeries much sooner and all is well.

When i discovered i was pregnant again, their main concern was actually whether the embryo had implanted in my c section scar (c section ectopic) or where it had implanted in general.
Mine was well above the scar and so they were pretty confident about the pregnancy.

Good luck in whatever you decide! X

I was told 2 years.
I waited 18 months after asking for more info (as am over 40).

Haven't had another sticky one yet ☹️
