Anyone used a doula? Or gave birth alone?

Has anybody here used a doula? Im in a shit position where my husband has left and it’s looking likely I’ll be giving birth alone. I have friends nearby but those closest to me may not be able to be with me due to childcare/work commitments. I don’t have any close family so I need to make plans so that I feel less worried about birth. I’ve had 2 good births so part of me thinks maybe I could just do it alone but I’m also a bit scared of been left alone without anyone to advocate for me when in labour. Any one have any experience?

Sorry to hear you are in this position. I have no experience of this myself but do have a friend who used a doula as her husband was too annoying at her first birth so she wouldn’t let him come second time round. She raves about what a positive experience it was and how fab the doula was. Good luck whatever you decide and congratulations!

I gave birth to my second alone (well apart from the two midwives in the room). Was absolutely fine.
But then my dh, who I love very much, is as much use as a sack of potatoes in stressful hospital situations.

A decent written birth plan would be more useful than some partners, I didn’t even take that, but in hindsight it seems like a good idea.

I reckon if you’ve done it twice already you could probably teach the midwife.

I gave birth completely alone. It was so much better without someone talking at me and flapping about.

I think that you’ll be fine alone. I’ve had 4 children and tbh my oh just got in the way!

I went in alone with 3 of mine, midwives were lovely. Was a very calm and peaceful experience for me

I had a doula but she didn’t get there in time! Had DH as well. If you think it won’t be too quick then it sounds like a good idea to me.
