Infected c section

C section 6 days ago and then since 2 days after I've had a cough and cold and the shivers although all seemed fine scar wise until last night.

Ended up back in postnatal and removed dressing- scar looked fine but the smell!!!
Terrible. Somive been given anti biotics. Had dressing changed this morning and it's still weeping which is expected.

Infection looks to be by my tummy where there is swelling soo it's getting out through the wound which is almost healed.

How long recovery am I looking at? 🙈

@babyp160 - you poor thing, not what you need! I haven't had an infection but didn't want to read and run. I did however have an infection in my stitches (natural) with my first baby and had a course of antibiotics and remember it being pretty quick to clear up (maybe a week?).

I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon x

Did the Dr do a swab? I had a general antibiotics initially for my minor infection which didn't do much but the doctor had done a swab as well that came back I needed metronidazole. After a week on that I was better. It's quite a strong one that passes into breast milk (still ok to use if breastfeeding) and only works on certain infections so isn't prescribed unless needed.

It depends really. I'm maybe not the best to comment as mine was awful.

My wound was ok to begin with then started weeping around day 10 and I was still taking antibiotics when my girl was 6 weeks old. Was quite a bad infection. It did go away and heel but it was quite painful for probably a gd 8-12 wks and still sore for months, even up to around a year after.

My scar now can't be seen apart from the area that was infected the scar there is noticeable and was thick and red/purple months after.

Tips are, don't go near a bath until it's fully healed! I kept doing this coz I love baths but it made it worse then I would regret it. It needs to dry out. Even the shower wasn't ideal it would start weeping again after if I got it too wet.

Similar to Shelby, ok for the first couple of weeks then infected. I won’t give you all the details but it was astonishing the amount of pus it produced. I think I took antibiotics for 3 weeks and wasn’t fully healed until about 8 weeks pp.
my skin was swollen, red and very tight around the wound until it came out 🤢 keep an eye on it. I taped a reusable breast pad over the wound and used my maternity leggings for ages. I have a very wonky scar now!

Thanks all!

Back to hospital tomorrow for a check.

They did a swab and no news from it so I assume that's good? 😬

The puss is gross amounts. A dressing change with a nurse every day as it's always covered!!! Last day of antibiotics tomorrow but I think I'm going to push for more to ensure it's completely clear!

It took a week for my swab results (I didn't have listed just weeping and redness) Def insist on more antibiotics unless it is completely pus free!

Littlebelina · 20/02/2019 19:09

Pus not listed ( strange autocorrect!)

babyp160 · 23/02/2019 22:22

Swab results come back and the antibiotics I did have wouldn't have helped at all so on some other ones now 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
