ELCS when were your appointments?

I asked about ELCS at my booking appointment (10 weeks) and was told that I'd be referred to speak to someone. I've since seen my midwife at 16 and 25 weeks and been told that they're chasing it up. 28 weeks now and still not heard anything!

I'm worried that they're fobbing me off and it's going to be too late to do anything.

When did you get to speak to a consultant about birth choices? And when was your ELCS agreed?

I saw the consultant at 26, 32 and 36 weeks. She said c-sections aren't usually agreed until 36 weeks even if you've already had one.

Mine was agreed earlier but only I think because I'd already had one and had a few mental health issues afterwards.

One of my friends is 32 weeks with her 3rd, having already had 2 sections and she still hasn't seen the consultant yet in this pregnancy.

I saw consultant at 39 weeks and date given 3 days later - it’s very stressful 🙄

I had my first appointment around 28 weeks and it was agreed I could have a section. I was 36 weeks when they actually booked it in and got a date. I was told this was the norm (although felt a bit close). Section booked in for 39+2 (which is 29/01).

33 weeks for confirmation of section agreement. 36 weeks to double check and book in.

Pre op was supposed to be at 38+5 and section at 39 but I went in to labour at 37+4 so ended up with an emergency one.

Thank you for the replies. It's reassuring that it's not too late for an appointment but also quite worrying that they seem to leave it really late to make a decision!

I'm having a ELCS. This was "agreed" at booking, due to previous CS. Nevertheless was not discussed again until 36 weeks, when the date was booked in. This is normal.

I mentioned I wanted one at booking in (previous emcs) then heard nothing until 28 week midwife appt (midwife led because no other risk factors). She then said I should’ve been booked in for the vbac clinic already but i ‘hadn’t been referred’, so she hastily booked me in for that the following week (at the hospital with a senior mw).
That all went fine and I’m booked in to see the consultant at 36 weeks to give my final decision and elective will be booked then.

26 weeks and it was signed off at 34 weeks.

I was consultant led for first pregnancy and had failed induction resulting in semi emergency section in Jan 18, this time I had booking in at 10 weeks and dating scan at 12.5 and on the day of the dating scan I saw the consultant afterwards who agreed on the ELCS and booked to see me nearer the time to do consents and be listed for it, this is at St Marys Manchester

First was breech, so it was quite late as they were hoping he would turn.
Second was around 36 or 37 weeks when they kindly booked me in for the day before my edd. They saw me 3 times a week, so it wasn’t like I’d slipped under their radar. It wasn’t until I was about 37+5 that they brought it forward due to pre eclampsia, but I still had to wait 6 days in hospital until my appointment.
They really don’t seem to feel the same urgency as we do about these things

My midwife referred me at my 8 weeks booking appt and I'll be due to see the consultant at 23 weeks

Saw consultant at my 16week appointment where elcs was discussed and agreed.

Got it in writing in a follow up letter the following week.

Have an appointment with the consultant again next week when I'll be 36 weeks to double check it's what I want, arrange a date and arrange pre op.

This is NHS care as well, not private

I went to see the consultant at 23 weeks and they booked my elective c section a week after my due date there and then (I was desperate for a vbac but they booked an elective if I didn’t start on my own). The date did change closer to the time (only by a couple days) and I did end up having je section.

I think it depends on the area and what you’re having a c section for.

Just to update, have finally received a consultant appointment! I'll be 33 weeks at the appointment.
