Sweep booked in on Monday

Hi!
Not sure if I've posted in the right place but here goes. I have gone over my due date by a week now, no sign of baby making his own way. He seems to be very comfy!

I have been booked in for a sweep on Monday, and am very nervous about it. I suffer with anxiety at the best of times but have managed well through pregnancy. But since I have told people about being booked in for a sweep, they are telling me how awful they are and very uncomfortable. As you can imagine, it's set my anxiety off a bit.

Are they really that bad? Does anyone have any positive stories in relation to sweeps? All I hear is horror stories!

Tia x

I can’t remember it being massively uncomfortable.

I was told the same thing and I was terrified but it's really nothing to worry about! Over and done with in under a minute. Not the most fun you'll ever have with your pants off but just a bit uncomfortable for a few seconds. I had 3 in 3 days to try and move bubs along.

I have 3 kids and don't deal with pain very well, Iv had like 4 sweeps all together and out of them all only one hurt but that's cuz she was rough .. honestly not painful at all in my experience ! You'll be fine x

It's often uncomfortable, rather than painful. Try to relax, I know it's difficult if youre nervous. Relax you mouth, wobble your jaw, this helps. Use positive thinking, this takes me a step closer to my baby....
Good luck 💚

It's only for a minute and the more ready your baby is the less uncomfortable it is. Very good luck

Mine didn't hurt at all. Like someone waggling a finger around really. Labour started within a few hours.

Has baby came yet?

I had a sweep at 38 weeks on a Wednesday morning. Sweep was uncomfortable but not painful. I just breathed through it and that helped.

Contractions started on the Wednesday night, went to the hospital and they said I was 3cm to go home and get on my birthing ball. I bounced on my ball and stimulated my nipples to push my contractions along.

Contractions all day Thursday, went to the hospital Thursday night was 5cm. Had DS by 9am Friday morning!

Hope it works for you! X

Hi all!
Had the sweep. It was quite uncomfortable but bearable. Unfortunately, no sign of baby yet Sad Although the midwife said I'm 1-2cm dilated! I'm booked in for another sweep tomorrow, and if nothing I'll be being induced on Thursday. Although, I hope by tomorrow something would have gotten him moving Grin

I had a sweep done on the Wednesday and my DS arrived in the Monday morning. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all, but my cervix was favourable. It just felt like a swab being taken, and a small amount of pressure. It is all over very quickly, and totally worth it.

It definitley helped things along too, as from the next day, my mucus plug began to come away and I went into natural labour Sunday night at home. He was my first baby so I was sceptical but I'd definitley be happy to have one next time.

Good luck, hope everything goes smoothly and your LO is here soon😊❤
