Hypnobirthing

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if hypnobirthing classes are worth the money as the classes can be quite expensive.

I'm really nervous about giving birth, this is my first baby and near enough everyone has told me a negative story about labour.

If anybody is willing to share their experiences of hypnobirthing classes it would be greatly appreciated.

I've started an online hypnobirthing course called the positive birth company which is a lot cheaper than weekly classes which could be an option to help financially

Worth every penny. We did a 4 session course over a couple of weeks in December. It was about £250 for the classes, MP3s to listen to, some great printed info and you get a catch up class nearer due date. Much cheaper than NCT that I was looking at and we both absolutely loved it.

I went with an open mind and whatever happens with my birth it’s done genuine wonders for my state of mind during this pregnancy. I’m having my first baby after several losses and spent a long time not completely attaching to the whole thing this time around.

The classes and the wonderful woman leading them has transformed how I feel and I’m actually enjoying being pregnant now.

It can’t hurt. It might help. It will hopefully be a positive experience now and get your head in a better place preparing for your birth.

Also get yourself a copy of the positive birth book, it was about £10 on amazon and I’m finding it really useful.

This book is amazing I read this to get an idea of what hypnobirthing all about and then booked classes with hippo birthing.

I loved hypnobirthing and it all made complete sense regarding getting in the zone and mind over matter. I had a cesearean in the end but started normal labour with contractions etc and used techniques learnt and had no pain.

I was terrified and wanted a c-section. Did lots of research and ended up doing a hypnobirth course. Helped tremendously to calm me down, had water birth with no drugs.

Totally worth it for me. I did it when pregnant with DC1 went on to have a homebirth with no pain relief - the tools I learnt in hypo were a big factor that contributed to that happening. Also recommend Ina May Gaskin's books.

For me it was worth it just to stop my anxiety whilst I was pregnant let alone the help it gave me when giving birth.

I done hypnobirthing during my last labour (DS now 8months old) and used the YouTube videos from The Positive Birthing Company- the teacher siobhan is amazing! You can also now get the whole course on digital download for £35 I think.

I mainly just used the breathing techniques but my lord they were a lifesaver!

I would have taken any drugs had I felt I needed them but managed a pain relief free water birth and my baby was 9lbs 4oz!

Following as signed up for a class this weekend and hoping it will help calm me down a bit as I'm usually quite an anxious & wound up person and a quite nervous about the whole birth followed by becoming a mum thing....

Currently reading Hypnobirthing by Marie Mongan. Some of it makes perfect sense and sone of it feels a bit patronising but I like to meditate using headspace so I think I am a believer in the general principles

I did the online course from the positive birth company and I found it really useful. I definitely think if you’re anxious about labour it would really help as it is also really informative about labour and gives you the information to make decisions and understand all things that may arise. The breathing techniques also help massively, I managed to have a successful induction with no pain relief at all (this wasn’t completely intentional as everything happened so fast!) and I don’t think I would have got through the first stage of labour without the breathing techniques I had learnt as it really gives you something to focus on.

I think more than anything it gives you the confidence to believe that whatever happens during your labour you can very much remain in control and still be involved in all decisions that need to made.

I got the Marie Morgan book and CD which were really good, but didn't do a course. Two very straightforward home births so no labour horror stories from me! Just dusting it off for DC3 as I've heard a lot of 3rd labour horror stories!

I think I'll definitely give the positive birthing company online course a go, I find £250 for classes a little bit much there's so much other stuff we could spend that money on but the price of the online course is reasonable.

I did a hypnobirthing course with the Positive Birth Company before I gave birth last year. I found the biggest benefit of hypnobirthing was that it lessened my anxiety about labour during my pregnancy and allowed me to relax slightly about what was coming.

The breathing I have carried on using after giving birth to calm myself or get through the first few minutes of painful latch during feeding!

Definitely recommend doing the online course, I found hypnobirthing a really positive experience.
