3rd degree tear recovery

I suffered a 3rd degree tear 5 weeks ago. I had a slight infection and this caused a 1mm opening. Infection is clearing up with antibiotics but I've just started bleeding.

Understand this could be my period but concerned it may be the opening I have has got bigger. Happened to anyone else? I don't know what I'm looking for and it's a Saturday night so can't call my DR! Don't particularly want to bother other services for a potential period 🙈 so coming here first...

Can you call the ward you were discharged from for advice? If it’s not your period then you really need to be seen...

How long ago did your bleeding from the birth stop? If it was over 10 days ago then I’d say yes it could be a period. If not it’s most likely your post partum bleeding starting up again.

Best way to know if it’s blood from your tear is to take a look yourself. Scary thought I know. I’d been there and had to check at 5 days pp to check I hadn’t split my stitches on my 3rd degree tear. Honestly wasn’t too bad looking at all. Expected it to be much worse.
