C Section recovery - pain relief

I'm almost 3 weeks post-section and still taking diclofenac x3 daily. Midwives didn't give any indication of how long to keep taking it...how long did you take it for?

I fell asleep on my side last night for first time and my back has been agony all day, so thinking maybe not quite ready to stop yet. Still taking paracetamol when my tummy gets sore, generally at least once a day.

I didn't take any painkillers. Where does it hurt?

I stopped taking paracetamol and ibroprufen around 3-4 weeks but had to start taking it again for a couple of weeks after a few days as was still so sore so I’d say up to 6 weeks then reconsider

INeedNewShoes · 29/12/2018 19:38

If you're in agony I think you should go to the GP for a check over.

I was in hospital for the first 2 days with oramorph but sent home on only paracetamol and ibuprofen. I was managing without pain relief within a week.

BestZebbie · 29/12/2018 19:44

Same as INeedNewShoes - stopped over the counter painkillers within a week (though not totally 'back to normal' bendiness etc at that stage). I agree you should probably get the GP to have a look at you.

I would echo PP, go see a GP

I didn't take any painkillers once I was home 48 hours after my c section

Hope you start feeling better soon xx

I stopped taking pain relief 10 days post section and could have probably stopped a couple of days earlier.

Goback to your GP or speak to your midwife.

Northernlass69 · 29/12/2018 19:49

I was the same, op. When the packet of diclofenic ran out they wouldn't give me any more. Thinking back i only really had pain if I'd over exerted myself, but I could be remembering wrong.

No, I didn't take painkillers either. I just had some general discomfort if I over-stretched but nothing that would need painkillers.

Perhaps your back is aching because of the limitations on sleeping position? If you're needing to take painkillers I'd get checked over by the GP.

Took paracetamol and ibuprofen in decreasing amounts for 10 days the first time and 8 or 9 the second. After that still had pains, but not to the extent of needing medication.

Jfw82 · 29/12/2018 20:04

Had paracetamol only and stopped after 10 days....

Sprintfinish · 29/12/2018 20:44

Thanks all. My back pain feels muscular so not too concerned about it, it's just annoying. Interesting mix in pain relief needed and prescribed after sections. I was out and about after a week but ended up exhausted with a high temp/fever so took it easier after that. Guess just wary of stopping pills incase have another setback as feel like I'm getting help stronger again now. Lost a lot of blood at birth so recovering from that too.

I'm coming up to 3 weeks since my section and still take paracetamol and ibroprufen. I have reduced the paracetamol and will probably start reducing the ibroprufen next week to see how I get on...

If you lost blood as well your body is probably still healing so be easy on yourself. I lost blood, had an iron infusion and swollen painful feet/legs from preeclampsia so am trying to just listen to my body and taking it easy.

Sprintfinish · 29/12/2018 22:54

@mondler it is difficult taking it easy, but have to keep reminding myself it's temporary and early days. We have months to get out with pram once I've recovered. May swap my diclofenac for ibuprofen and see how that goes.
