hi everyone! I am just wondering what happens in case you are going into early labour before your planned ELCS date? Would they make you try VBAC instead or just proceed with the section?

It would be your choice. They will let you try for VBAC if you want to, if not, they will give you a section.

I had a scan two days before my ELCS and it was found my waters had gone at some point i had no fluid left. Was admitted into hospital, monitored overnight (scan was at 4pm) never went into active labour but because waters had gone it was done the following morning so the day before my planned one. My friend went into labour at 36 weeks contracting and they did it that night after giving the option to vbac so it will be your decision but ring straight away and inform them too that your due a section and in labour if that happens.

I did go into labour and was 6 cms before they delivered my daughter. I was offered the choice of continuing or having a repeat section as soon as it was possible. I chose the c-section because of what happened with my first (stuck at full dilation even though supposedly in an optimal position) but they made it very clear it was my choice and they were happy either way.

The only caveat they gave me was that my baby was clearly tolerating labour fine and my readings were fine too so any emergencies would come first and obviously if I got fully dilated whilst waiting, then it would be a different story.

With DS I went into labour early and 60 miles away from my hospital. I rocked up to the nearest one and explained why I needed a c section (only my waters had gone at this point). Luckily I had my notes with me and they did it next morning.
Then with DD my waters went while I was waiting to be called into theatre. Contractions started soon after but I still went in for my section.

My waters went but I didn't go into labour. I was admitted because of the risk of cord prolapse as he was lying in a really weird position. They did the c-section 2 days later.

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful to know. I was asking because I have a friend of mine who was supposed to have an planned C-section but was one week early. She went to the delivery room and was questioned what was the reason for her elcs at triage. perhaps that's standards practice, not sure. In the end she was given a room right away, so no problems there!
