Birthing ball for induction?

Sjb10 · 26/10/2018 13:35

I am being induced in Nov at 38weeks and starting to think about packing my bag. Just wondering if I should buy a birthing/gym ball to take? Not sure if it helps with the induction process or not really.
Any thoughts? Or any other suggestions of things to take Smile

I think most hospitals have birthing balls in your room.
Mine did and I bounced on it pretty much until the pushing stage of my labour. I was induced, just 1 pessary needed. From pessary to baby being born was only 7.5hrs, so I like to think the vouching helped! Ha xx

*bounching not vouching

Most hospitals have birthing balls which you can use. Look on their website or ask them.

You are not suppose to bounce on them as you risk them popping instead you roll on them. If you aren't sure there are lots of YouTube videos on how to use them in labour, though if you have done fitness classes over the years using them you will find the gentler movements are the same.

My induction to delivery was quick so using a birthing ball after an hour was useful but if your labour goes slower you won't need one so quickly.

I found a TENS machine helped me and I had to get my own before hand.

I used a birthing ball for a few weeks before I went into labour but when I was in actual labour I couldn't sit on the balll or get comfy with it at all, so they aren't for everyone :)
P.s I didn't take my own, the hospital had one.

The hospital will most likely have one in every room. They encouraged me to bounce when I had the pessary in.

Yep bouncing will help. Gives you something to do as induction is so boring until your body gets the hint!
