Home water birth and induction?

JJR17 · 25/10/2018 14:29

So I have a home water birth planned and approved by my midwife providing everything goes as planned, however, my not so little one is growing rapidly and measuring ahead, I was wondering If being induced early for a big baby eliminates the chance of a home water birth? Just trying to think ahead to prepare myself mentally !! Thanks:)x

You can not be induced at home as you need continuous monitoring. It is unlikely you will need to be induced just due to baby size though. If baby is large they may investigate why e.g. gestational diabetes depending on how far along you are.

Not 100% but I'm pretty positive that you can't be induced and have a home birth. Induction is generally a long process with lots of stages and lots of monitoring. Double check with your midwife about the rules but I'm sure induction is a hospital job.

Hope you get your home birth!

Im not sure. I was induced so was under continuous monitoring, but still pushed for a pool birth, but at the hospital. I had gestational diabetes.

I argued for a pessary and then home birth yesterday. Got a fat no. I'm reluctantly going in for induction tomorrow at 40+15! My homebirth dream is gone 😔

I've been tested for gestational diabetes. I was a big baby and I'm quite small now and I have a small frame, they estimated him at 8lb6 at 28 weeks and they said even if he was born at that size he would be very big for my body to handle. I've been having growth scans every 4 weeks to keep an eye on him, so it's not unlikely that he will be big enough for them to induce early. Thanks everyone ! Really hope I get my home birth too!x

Maybe meet in the middle if it’s a no for home birth with induction and water birth. I had a very straight forward induction and got my water birth.

Also do you mean 8lb 6 at 38 weeks? Not 26?

JJR17 · 26/10/2018 15:47

Oh that's so good!& no sorry I meant at my scan at 28 weeks his estimated birth weight was 8lb6 x
