Queen Elizabeth vs RAH in Glasgow

Hey! I'm meant to be moving house a few weeks before I'm due. I was originally meant to be going to the QEUH to give birth but my new house is closer to the RAH. I've heard good things about the community midwife unit at the RAH and I like the idea of it being more midwife led (with medics in hand if needed). Does anyone have any experience of either of these hospitals? Im finding it hard to decide! Thanks 😊

I haven't given birth in either but due to at the RAH in a few weeks. Have had complications and been admitted a few times to RAH and the care was great. Have been to QEUH for a few appointments and had to stay one night and honestly it was so different - really busy and loud with loads of visitors in and out. RAH was much more relaxed and only has 2 wards so really quiet. Also there are a decent number of private rooms so your chances of getting one is good.

Both mine were form at rah and the midwives were great. It's an older hospital so there are somethings needing updating (drafts at windows) but if I have another would be rah again. I have also heard that qeuh don't offer toast after you have given birth but rah do 🤣 and I know of someone who changed their mind about what hospital based on this information!

Haha I've heard that too @nevisbump 😂 supposedly the QEUH only do sandwiches, no toast lol. I've not had the best experience at the QEUH so far when seeing the EPU so I probably am leaning more towards the RAH eventhough it's an older hospital.

Do either of you happen to know if we are allowed to change hospital from the one we are originally booked into?

I don't know about changing hospital but give the midwife unit at the rah a call and see what they say although they can't do much about it if you turn up in labour 🤣
Should have said both my labours were consultant led and the consultants were brilliant too

I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow so will ask her about moving hospital then. Thanks!

I’ve given birth 3 times in the RAH and really likely. Due again in December :)
