Anyone else never notice their mucus plug?

Quite a few years since I had my kids, but it’s something I ponder now and again. I had two vaginal births and didn’t have anything resembling a mucus plug with either of them. First time round the midwife broke my waters after I’d got to about 8 cm, second time the labour began with my waters going.

Just wondering if it’s unusual to have no sign of if. My niece has just had a baby and her labour began with her losing the plug which she described as this ‘huge lump of jelly’ so I’d imagine it’s hard to miss.

It was a while ago for me but no sign of mucus plugs with any of my three DCs.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 06/10/2018 19:20

Nope, just waters going in the middle of the night.

student26 · 06/10/2018 19:20

Nope, no sign.

Momo27 · 06/10/2018 20:13

I wonder where it goes?

Nope, no sign with any of my 3. First was days late started with contractions and waters went just before transition. Second my waters went at 6 days late and contractions started a few hours later. Third was 9 days over and waters were broken to start induction. Noticed nothing resembling a mucus plug at all.

With my second no.

My first I did. Though I think most of it went down the toilet as the only bits I had were very small

Narya · 06/10/2018 20:19

Mine came out about an hour after my waters broke

katmarie · 06/10/2018 20:19

I lost my mucus plug, it was a big lump of bloody jelly like stuff, so grim! It didn't all go at once either, which I didn't expect, it came away over a few hours while I was already having contractions. I still had to have my waters broken though, after 3 days of Labour and no progress.

Nutkins24 · 06/10/2018 20:19

Nope, never saw mine twice either. I wondered if it was weird. I lost my waters before labour both times.

LeGrandeFluff · 06/10/2018 20:23

Nope never saw mine. I lost my waters before being induced first time and second time ds was born with waters intact.

rainingcatsanddog · 06/10/2018 20:23

I'm a mum of 3 and have never seen a mucus plug. I got to 10cm without my waters breaking all 3 times so I suspect that it cane out when the midwives broke them for me.

Hoppinggreen · 06/10/2018 20:25

I didn’t and my waters didn’t really break with a big rush, they leaked slowly with both dc
Unfortunately with DS the mw didn’t realise and kept trying to rupture my membrane with the hook thingy while saying it was “quite tough”
Turns out it was DS Head, which had scratches from the hook on it when he was born

mineofuselessinformation · 06/10/2018 20:33

I had my waters broken with both dc.
I never saw a mucus plug and suspect it came away when my waters were broken.

MaverickSnoopy · 06/10/2018 20:33

With my first I didn't. I had a spontaneous labour, starting with my waters breaking. With my second I didn't have anything at all and I was induced at 42+1 with the midwife breaking my waters. So I assume they came out with my waters both times. This time I've lost "bits" of my plug over the last couple of weeks - so several smaller lumps of jelly type stuff. Today after a sweep I've had some stringy bits in some blood but midwife doesn't think it's the rest of my plug.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/10/2018 20:39

I never had a plug discharge with either of my DC, but equally I never had Braxton Hicks or any warning signs at all , just waters breaking and instant labour...

FebruaryBear · 06/10/2018 22:28

I lost mine at 8cm in hospital, about a minute before my first exam. Any later and I assume I probably wouldn't have known as the midwife would have just cleared it away.

I don't know when my waters broke though, we assume in the 2 hours ish I was in the birthing pool.

Batteriesallgone · 06/10/2018 22:31

No sign with my first.

With second and third - I don’t know?... Grin I didn’t have a plug but I did have quite a bit of discharge. Could have been a disintegrating plug I guess? I was eagled eyed looking for it but no definitely no large lump of jelly

Mamabearx4 · 06/10/2018 22:37

No sign with 1st, induced and waters broken
No sign with 2nd, spontaneous waters went on their own
3rd omg came away for hours loads of it b knew labour was about to start waters went fee hours later. No contractions till an hour before she arrived.

CarrieBlu · 06/10/2018 22:39

I didn’t notice my plug, and I also didn’t notice my waters going Hmm Baby was in distress with heart rate dropping so they decided to help things along by breaking my waters, only they didn’t find any. They think I must have had a very slow leak over the days leading up to my contractions starting and that’s why I didn’t notice!
