Hi looking for a little bit of advice as it's really difficult to try and explain a colour to someone over the phone.

I am currently 40+1.

One Tuesday from around 3.30am I started to have cramping type pains which went on until around 9am the pains weren't too bad and were occurring every 10 minutes and lasting around 30 seconds I then had a bloody show which actually looked like fresh blood and then everything stopped. Over the last two days I've had a further 3 shows but the blood is much darker and ive also had bits of discharge I guess I just really want to make sure that this is definitely blood and not meconium as I know that can be dangerous for baby.

Sorry for the pics not being very nice Confused

Thoughts please or should I go to the hospital? I just don't want to waste their time.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I’d go to the hospital, it’s always better to get checked if you’re unsure.

That doesn’t look like any shows I had BUT none of mine looked the same as each other either.

If for nothing else bar peace of mind I’d go.

Mine looked like that, but I’ve only had one baby so am by no means an expert - if you’re uneasy get checked out.

(I did have meconium in my waters during delivery and it was visibly greenish, rather than brown.)

Looks and sounds like a show to me. I had the same with DD. I would expect meconium in your waters to not be as thick. Definitely call triage if concerned though.

Did you get checked out? The first picture is most definitely a show but the second one I’m not too sure from the picture alone, looks like it could be thick meconium?

randomwoman123 · 06/10/2018 00:01

First one looks like a show, thick and mucusy. Second one I'm not sure but it looks more like blood than meconium to me. The meconium in my children's newborn nappies was more greenish black. I'd still go to hospital to get checked though, just to put your mind at rest. If nothing else they can examine you to see if you're dilated yet. Good luck!!

Hiya sorry for not responding sooner. I had a beautiful baby girl on Saturday morning after my waters breaking on Friday evening. There was no meconium in my waters thankfully. Thank you all for your replies Smile
