Hi everyone,

Whats all your experiences with your baby number 1? Did you go over or early? I'm 38+1 and I have booked my ELCS for 15th October so i'll be 39+5 not long and cannot wait.

Can't wait to read your stories.

By my dates before any scans, he was bang on due date! Hospital dated me 4 days earlier. At about 8 o’clock on a Saturday night I’d just had a bath, bent over to pull the plug out and my waters broke. Felt like I was seeing myself! I had no contractions and no pain but had to go to the hospital so my waters could be checked. My OH didn’t drive at this point so I drove the 5 mins to the hospital absolutely fine. In the waiting room I suddenly felt a bug hush as the rest of my waters broke all over the floor! They checked me but I wasn’t dilated so sent home. We had been waiting around at the hospital and at this point it was about 9.30 and the contractions had started! We got home and I went to bed with the tens machine. By 4am we went back to the hospitals as my contractions were less than a minute apart. But I was only 1cm!!!! So I had pethadine at about 4.30 am and was finally at 4cms by 10am wen I could get the gas and air! So it’s 10 am Sunday morning, get to delivery sure and just bounced on a ball with gas and air. Was checked again at 1pm and I was only 5cms dilated so they put me on the hormone drip to keep my contractions going. I finally got an epidural at about 5pm. By about midnight I was still only 9cms so the doctor manually dilated me the last cm and I started pushing. Nothing was happening so I then got taken into theatre. I finally had him at 4.24am on the Monday by forceps. Once he was delivered they took him over to a little table behind me and they were over there ages. I was getting worried and no one was telling me anything. Turns out his oxygen levels were reading very low and they were really worried. Then a senior midwife came in and said “let’s use some common sense - this baby is breathing, is pink and is crying, lets give him to his mum”. Turned out the oxygen level machine was broken!

Due to the type of delivery I had a tough recovery - about 6 weeks. But I’m now TTC baby #2 because it is all more than worth it.

My one regret is that I didn’t ask my OH to film any of our time in the hospital. We were both to busy going through it but I would love to be able to watch my labour experience back and see it from another perspective.
