Anyone got any good recommendations to help with constipation? For me, not baby! With dc1 I tried fibogel but it didn't work. I've also tried the things that would usually make me go (prunes, coffee...) but to no avail 😔

I used laxido. Just beware the dehydration.

Sugar free sweets, especially sugar free mint humbugs. I had loads of those after my last c section and they helped me to go (this is why I normally need to avoid artificial sweeteners).

I drunk a whole carton of prune juice at the same stage and ut really helped.

Laxido or Movicol mixed with the right amount of water. You can buy over the counter - laxido is much cheaper. Bonds with water molecules to get water into your large bowel without being reabsorbed en route, so keeps your poo soft. Won’t do much to get rid of a large blockage though unless taken in large amounts - a stimulant laxative like Dulcolax is your best bet for that - but laxido good for taking as a low dose once you’ve cleared the immediate problem to stop things clogging up again

Lactulose is a softener and will help get things moving but it’s quite gentle. After 5 days you might need something stronger. I’d also recommend using a warm flannel and holding your perinium when poo time comes, it’ll ease the feeling that you are going to shit out your insides the first time.

Lactulose and a lamb saag from the Indian.

I was four days and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was like a new woman afterwards, I was just so relieved.

Bring your phone into the loo so you have a distraction!

tigercub50 · 26/09/2018 23:52

Rachelsholiday · 26/09/2018 23:54

Probably not helpful but I remember taking the breast pump instructions into the loo at the hospital to take my mind off the constipation sorry but you just brought back a memory
