Just had a really positive appointment re: ELCS

Just had my consultant Midwife appointment and she was really lovely. I couldn’t have asked for it to have gone better really.
She was so understanding and so we’ve decided to book in an elective c section due to my anxiety. She fully understood my reasons. However I said if I go into labour early (before booked section) then I may just continue with a natural birth but see how I feel on the day, she said I still have an option to get a section if it happens spontaneously.
I feel like there’s a huge weight off my shoulders. She said I’ll be booked in between 38 and 40 weeks.
She even took me for a walk around the ward where I’ll be getting ready for the section and when I come back up and stay overnight.
The only thing I’m a bit disappointed about is visiting times for partners are 8am-8pm meaning he won’t be able to stay with me overnight. But she said they’re fairly flexible with the times anyway.

In my experience, you won't notice that your partner isn't there at night, I just wanted some sleep!
Glad your appointment went so well, now you can enjoy the last part of pregnancy!

At our hospital the policy is different partners/husbands can stay, however i sent my husband home about 9 at my last section, i wouldn't expect him to sleep in a chair as they are rock hard. He came back up first thing and i felt he could help me better with having sleep as i came home that afternoon. The midwifes are there to help with anything you need.

@CathyandHeathcliff Hi Cathy, I know we are due around the same date as we have been through this pregnancy posting on here since day dot! I feel your pain exactly what your going through, I have also opted for an ELCS and have my consultant appointment next Thursday. I have been having counselling for the last 7 months to try and shake the feeling but nothing works, the safest way for my son to be born is through ELCS otherwise he will be in danger as I will have a panic attack which I am prone to or he will be very distressed. Fingers crossed for me! Its lovely to read your story x

CathyandHeathcliff · 22/09/2018 20:15

@laurenluke2017 you sound exactly like me. I think its the safest way for my boy to be born too, as he’s also measuring large, I’m worried about shoulder dystocia.
I really hope you have as positive an appointment as me. I still need to see the consultant on Tuesday to be signed off for it and get an official date but we’re almost there.
If you ever want to message me on here, feel free. I can give you my Facebook details/email address too.

@CathyandHeathcliff Hi Cathy,

I had my consultant midwife appointment around a week ago which was vey positive she gave me all the details and explained it was an informed decision etc, she wrote me a referral which explains all my mental health issues as well for my consultant to see when I have the appointment on Thursday. I explained everything regarding my family trauma as well as my aniexty which I am not dealing with, and having had counselling for the last 7+ months. She was very supportive. So I just can't wait to see the consultant now and to let a date booked. As I just know I won't be settled until I have a date booked then I can enjoy the remainder of the pregnancy. I am 36+3 today, due October 17th.

I have also been doing extensive research to back my case as well as going onto birthrights.org.uk and reading up on there. I just want to have as much with me to plead my case, (that's if I don't start to cry when I walk in!) drop me a email Cathy we can email eachother. I'd also like to let you know how my consultant meeting goes on Thursday and I'd love to hear about yours on Tuesday.

X

@CathyandHeathcliff Hi Cathy, how are you? I was wondering how you got on today? I have appointment on Thursday. I cannot wait now.

CathyandHeathcliff · 26/09/2018 09:25

@laurenluke2017 Hi Lauren, I had my appointment yesterday and the doctor I saw was really lovely. She didn’t have a problem with me having the c section at all. I’ve signed the papers and done my MRSA swabs, however I won’t get my date just yet, it’s coming in the post, which is a bit disappointing as I wanted the date so I had something to work towards.
I feel relieved, but also nervous. She said it would be done between 39 and 40 weeks. I’m 36+4 now.
Good luck to you! Keep me posted x

@CathyandHeathcliff Hi Cathy, I am so pleased for you. I cannot wait until my appointment now, I will keep you posted on how I get on. Well done my love, I am 37 weeks today. At least you can look forward to the post coming everyday! X

laurenluke2017 · 27/09/2018 12:27

@CathyandHeathcliff Hi Cathy, thought I'd update you. So I got there and I was booked with the wrong consultant who doesn't approve maternal requests, but however they have referred me to the lady who does approve maternal requests caesareans sections so I have an appointment with her on Monday. But the up side is I can pick my date on Monday there and then with her so I am happy. Looks like he could be out around 10 or 12 of October! Excited now xx

CathyandHeathcliff · 27/09/2018 16:25

@laurenluke2017 aww I’m so happy for you. Sorry you didn’t get to speak to someone today though.
I hope my date arrives soon.

I think mine will be between 12th and 19th Oct. That’ll be between 39 and 40 weeks for me.

Sorry to hear some of you suffering with birth anxiety...have you ever looked into EFT to relieve this? Good luck with your sections x

laurenluke2017 · 01/10/2018 17:14

@CathyandHeathcliff WOOHOO! Had it all booked my ELCS, 15th October i'll be 39+5 so littleman is born that day. Very happy ❤️ Have you got your date yet? X

CathyandHeathcliff · 01/10/2018 17:20

@laurenluke2017 Yes I got it today, 17th October. So not far behind you.

OP posts:
laurenluke2017 · 01/10/2018 17:24

@CathyandHeathcliff 17th is my actual due date. I was suppose to be booked for the week before but because I was messed around I missed dates. So I had the earliest one available which was the 15th. So am pleased, and now to relax.

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/10/2018 15:42

@laurenluke2017 I’m still massively scared! But I do feel relieved. I just hope he doesn’t decide to make an early experience.

OP posts:
laurenluke2017 · 02/10/2018 16:35

@CathyandHeathcliff I feel a lot more relieved now that all paperwork has been signed so I know that either way he is coming out the way I want. So I do feel more in control of the situation now. I'm just relaxing now and not doing to much to entice labour to start. Bring on the 15th!
